About This Product

DTT tension ties are safe, cost-effective connectors designed to meet or exceed code requirements for deck construction. These versatile DTT connectors are also load rated as a holdown for light-duty shearwalls and braced wall panel applications. The DTT1Z deck tension tie provides a less invasive approach for attaching a new deck to a home or retrofitting an existing deck to current code standards.

  • Ties the deck into the house for a stronger, safer ledger connection
  • Helps prevent a common type of deck failure
  • Retail pack includes Strong-Drive SD Connector Screws and SDWH Timber-Hex HDG Screws
  • Made from 14-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications

Q:Need to mount on the side of the joists rather than under since there is siding below the ledger board, but how is it determined where to install on an existing deck when it can't be determined where the mudsill or wall plate is?

Q:Are these recommended to further assist the construction screws and could screw into your garage framing to secure ledger to garage.

      Answer This Question

A:  If you are attaching a deck to your garage they would not help much. You need to attach a ledger to your joist with structural screws first.. Need to elaborate more on the area of the garage you are attaching your ledger to.

              Building Inspector Approved!!
I had my city building inspection in MA come out to inspect my completed deck. He confirmed my use of hurricane ties between the beam and joists and asked if I used tension ties to connect the deck to the house. This has been a requirement in the IRC since 2015, but I missed it during framing. He told me exactly where to go in HD to purchase this product and once I installed he would sign off. I had to crawl under my 24" high deck, but was able to easily install the four tension ties. I secured these to the joists and the mudsill or sillplate and was done in about 30 minutes. Inspector signed of and I'm good to go. Way overkill for my low deck, but now code compliant.
