Prevent Corrosion

Deck-Drive DWP stainless-steel fasteners are recommended for higher-exposure environments or applications

Simpson Strong-Tie hurricane ties are designed to resist high winds and seismic forces by positively connecting trusses/rafters to the top of wall of the structure. These ties connect both solid-sawn and engineered lumber across a wide range of applications. Some hurricane tie models are available with additional corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications.
  • Great for connecting 2x deck joists on top of a perpendicular beam
  • Install in pairs on either side of the rafter/truss/joist to provide resistance to uplift and lateral forces
  • Use also for a variety of connections where 1-member crosses another
  • Made from 18-Gauge steel
  • Galvanized (G90) for extra corrosion resistance
  • Install with 8d common nails or 9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws

Answer

We call out 0.131 x 1 1/2" nails to the rafter/truss and 0.131 x 2 1/2" to the plate. In our General Instructions for the Installer we state "All specified fasteners must be installed according to the instructions in this catalog. Incorrect fastener quantity, size, placement, type, material, or finish may cause the connection to fail. Larger-diameter fasteners may be substituted for smaller- diameter fasteners in connectors provided the larger fastener does not cause splitting in the wood member and the connector holes are not enlarged." I am not familiar with the specifications of the nail mentioned, but can tell you the hole diameter on the H1 is 0.156" diameter. Thank you!

These are great Hurricane Ties! I have used & still do the Single Strap but I prefer these over them. They go on easily & provide a huge secure mount to the Rafters to the sill plate or support beam. I have noticed when working with long 20 foot 2x6s they can be a bit flimsy if not secured down properly to the Support Beam & Sill Plate. Great little investment to assure a solid Roof Deck!
