Simpson Strong-Tie hurricane ties are designed to resist high winds and seismic forces by positively connecting trusses/rafters to the top of wall of the structure. The H1 is designed for nominal 2x lumber. This U-shaped hurricane tie provides faster installation than using two single-sided ties. The embossments add stiffness in crucial areas for improved performance.

Holds the rafter or truss on both sides for high lateral load resistance
Used for a variety of connections where one member crosses another
Can be installed on inside or outside of wall, or both sides
Can be installed with flanges facing either inward or outward
Made from 18-gauge steel
Galvanized (G90) for extra corrosion resistance
Install with (6) 0.131 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails to rafters/truss and (4) 0.131 x 2-1/2 in. nails to plates, OR (6) #9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws to rafters/truss and (4) #9 x 1-1/2 in. SD screws to plates

Q:Why do the h1z's lack the galvanized spangled finish, the old ones were clearly galvanized. The ones that I bought today ZmaxG185MCC-0H1Z seem to lack the zinc. Could they be mislabeled ?

A: Hello Dolemite, this is Ricardo. The H1 are available in two different options, the H1 and the H1Z. When I clicked on the above link, the part that comes up is the H1, which is not a ZMAX coated material, it is a standard G90 galvanized metal. If you feel the part is still not labeled correctly, please contact us at (800) 999-5099 so we can look into this further.

Q:Can I use an H1 and 2 H2.5A hurricane ties on each deck rafter rather than cutting a birds mouth? The rafters are 2x8?s just under 15 ft long. The width of the deck is 16 ft.

A: JJR - the width between the flanges on the H1 is 1 9/16", sized for a 2x member. It would not fit on the members mentioned. Thank you!

A: H1 hurricane tie is intended to wrap around standard 2x wood rafters which are 1.5 in. wide. Slot opening in this tie is 1 9/16 in. These are great Hurricane Ties! I have used & still do the Single Strap but I prefer these over them. They go on easily & provide a huge secure mount to the Rafters to the sill plate or support beam. I have noticed when working with long 20 foot 2x6s they can be a bit flimsy if not secured down properly to the Support Beam & Sill Plate. Great little investment to assure a solid Roof Deck!
