Q:How thick are these in decimal? Anyone have a caliper measurement since gauge 12 can be all over the place?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Mike, this is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The thickness of 12 gauge ZMAX coated connectors is .110". This information can be found in our Wood Construction Connectors Catalog (C-C-2021) which is viewable on our website at www.strongtie.com. Type in C-C-2021 in the search box and it should come back as the first result under literature. See top of page 20. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. Thank you-Colin.

Q:Can these be used to repair a joist that was cut within 2 inches of the top or bottom? Can 2 of these be used on the same joist (butted together on the end) to help maintain tension in a joist?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello Yuppers, The HRS strap is simply a tension strap. If a building designer would like to incorporate a strap like this into a design to repair a joist that is up to his or her discretion. We would not recommend trying to use the HRS strap for continuous tension simply butting together, end-to-end. A longer strap is a better option for tension purposes. Kind Regards, McKenzie

A:  I used the HRS-16 plates to reinforce porch posts. The screws I used were Simpson 1/4 in. x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SDS Heavy-Duty Connector Screws.

A:  Hi OlDavyBoy, this is Colin with Simpson Strong-Tie. The HRS416Z must be installed with our SDS25112 screws (16 total). We have not evaluated that strap installed with nails. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. Thank you.

A:  This is not an appropriate question for this forum; as codes and rules change, the allowable load can change. Go to the manufacturer's literature and look it up.

I made a couple benches that sat on top of a small retaining wall and I needed to anchor the back of it to the ground somehow. I bought these strap tires for around $8 each, and attached them to the benches and slid them right in to the ground. They are strong and my branches aren't going anywhere. Great buy. Worked as planned.

                      Excellent product and price.
Great product. Good quality metal. Easily modified for general or custom use. Used two of these to help strengthen my 50 inch Monster searchlight arbor and yoke support system. See two photos. Hard to see the bracket as it's been partially encased with fiberglass resin and strands to incorporate it into a multi material searchlight being used as a Sustitute for the WWII giant 60 inch carbon arc searchlight with similar results. 4,000 watt HMI @ 385,000 lumen compared to the arc 12,000 watt 425,000 lumen output.

Perfect solution for strengthening a butt jointed beam that some knuckleheads thought was strong enough with just a one foot length of 2x6 tying them together
