A:  Hello Mark, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The HU hanger comes in a standard G90 galvanized coating which is a low level of corrosion protection. However, this model can be ordered in a ZMAX coating which is equivalent to hot-dipped galvanized. The majority of our joist hangers and hurricane ties come in G90 galvanized but can be ordered with added corrosion protection such as ZMAX and HDG, which are medium levels of corrosion protection. These can be suitable for outdoor applications that don't have salt in the air or is near an oceanfront. Our corrosion recommendations are obtained by the AWPA. A:  The Strong-Drive SD Connector screw is specifically designed to replace nails in *certain Simpson Strong-Tie connectors and is the only screw approved for that application. The single-fastener load capacity of the SD10 exceeds the capacity of the 16d common nail.
