Q:Can 3 of these be placed side by side if I need to extend a 3-gang light switch? If not, is there a 3-gang version of this??
by|Oct 22, 2021

Answer This Question

A:  Yes. You can stack as many as you need. You are only limited by the length of your screw. The screws that came with the pack are long enough for most applications, although I did not measure the screws before I installed them.

Q:Q1. are these NEC 2014 compliant? I believe these need to completely "enclose" the electrical box with no air gaps between the box and the spacer? It appears at a minimum these at 3.69" tall would leave a gap at the top and bottom of the 4 X 2 inch box. Q1.5. Do these have a 2 hour fire rating, I believe also required to be NEC compliant? Q2. what are the "inside" measurements (the "open space in the middle before the screw holes" length and width) because my 90 yr old house has many 3" X 2" single gang boxes for outlets and switches and I need to know if the "inside opening" will completely enclose these 3 x 2 boxes Q3. are these stamped "UL listed" on the outer frame visible to the electrical inspector? Thank you

Answer This Question

A:  On the package is a website address that would be perhaps be a good place to get your technical questions addressed. The address is ..... questions@DRCComponents.com The package does have a UL classified label stamped on it and UL94HB. So save the package for the inspector?

by|May 18, 2019

A:  I would suggest you look up the exact item on the internet and or call the 800 number listed by the manufacturer. Most customer service reps would be happy to tell you exactly what compliances their specific items pass, meet or exceed.

A:  The ones I got consisted of 5 packages with one each of three sizes in each package and one pair of screws. That is one 1/4", one 3/8'' and one 1/2" extender, and two screws in each of the 5 individual packages.

DRC Components electrical single gang box extender spacer combo (1/4”, 3/8”, & ½”) 5 pack is a great efficient way to solve the loose, sunken light switches or plugs in your house roughed too deep in by an electrician in a hurry. If your light switches in your house especially the newer Decora style light switches you will see the light switched are not level with the plate or sunken below the actual light switch cover. You just simply remove the light switch cover, turn on the light switches so you can easily go to your main electrical panel and turn off the correct breaker controlling the power to the light switch box. This is an easy way to make sure power is off if you do not have an electrical tester. When you are sure the power is off remove the screws at the top and bottom of the switches. Gently pull out both switches and slide the black plastic extender over the switched and hold in place then reinstall the lights switches, no need to mess with any of the wiring. The kit even includes the 6 x 32 screws you might need. Screw the switch back into the box, turn on the power and make sure the switch works correctly. Finally install the light switch cover and admire your job. These are excellent way to be code legal for spacing out plugs when installing tile on Kitchen back splashes or other areas.

These smart fill spacers arrive in a package with three sizes. 1/4" Black, 3/8" Grey and 1/2" Black along with two longer screws to use in the outlet/switch box. Have some recent renovation drywall work done by overly fast contractor who didn't pay much attention to the depth of the existing electrical boxes, these came in quite handy as different boxes had different depths related to surface. So we used four of these spacers in varying sizes. Showing pictures of one box fixed up. Pro: very solid and sturdy. Con: very tight fit and have to fully re-wire unless you have sufficient space to snake outlet and wires through the center - tough to do. Still overall I prefer these longer term over the other more flimsy type that are available.

This is a review for the combo pack of single gain electrical box extender/spacers. This is a good concept because there are many times I need more space for my wiring than a box will allow. The pack has 3 different sizes that are different colors for easy identification, 1/4", 3/8", & 1/2" but each pack only comes with one set of screws which is no big deal. Installation was a little difficult because the slotted holes for the mounting screws were too narrow and I had to use my screw gun to get them in as a hand driver would have been difficult. Once installed the spacer fits snugly onto the box and provides more space in the box as designed. Keep in mind that if installing one of these on an existing outlet box, it will extrude out from the wall surface but will work well with new installations where the box can be set back as desired. This is a good product that I will keep in my electrical supply box.

If you do any repair work at the outlet or switch location, you’ve probably run into this problem every so often - the switch or outlet won’t line up with the surface of the wall and therefore, you have trouble re-attaching the cover plate to the box. Yes, you might have tried to stick something like a piece of cardboard behind the outlet mounting screws, but this product is a much better, more stable solution that’s easy to install. I like that these come in a package of 3 depth sizes ¼, 3/8 and 1/2" because it’s difficult to know what you will need before starting out; having these sizes handy make it likely you can finish the job, even if you guessed wrong the first time, particularly since you can combine them to fill additional sizes. I also like that they can be installed behind a switch or outlet without any need to remove/replace the wiring (although shutting the power is advisable). And they come with 2 screws, 1-1/2" long so you won't have to hunt for another fastener to complete the installation. A great solution to an annoying problem.

The combo pack comes with 5 of each: 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" extenders. The outlet extenders work well in our kitchen. We have a tiled back splash so many of the outlet plates need to be shimmed out. We used to use washers to bring the outlet out away from the wall. This is expensive especially when you have more than one outlet to shim. If they are a bit too deep, you can easily thing them out by using a hand sander or table sander to take off a little.

Sometimes there comes along a device that someone thinks up that " I wish I had thought of it" is the first thing that goes through my mind. These are particularly handy when remodeling and you have applied a new layer of sheetrock on a surface and find that all your plug and switch boxes are now 1/2" back from the face of the sheetrock. You really do need a solid way to mount the devices back in the wall or ceiling so that they come flush with the new surface. These are just the thing. The packages I got have 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" thickness spacers and long screws to replace the originals which might be too short. I suppose you could stack them to go thicker if you had to. I will be using these!
