Can I used 12/2 for a 230v outlet???

Can I used 12/2 for a 230v outlet???
Asked by: Chiveto
Short answer, maybe. I'd recommend asking a licensed electrician or consulting your department of build code enforcement. The answer depends on a lot of variables - how far away the outlet is from the breaker box, the amperage of the circuit (20 amp, 30 amp, 40 amp etc). It also depends on the number of wires needed. I believe most use 4 wires (line 1, line 2, neutral and ground), this only has 3 so you'd lose the neutral.

My advice and strong recommendation to any home owner(s) who decide to do own house wirings during re-modeling or small project(s) to buy this big roll of 250 feet because if you didn't used the whole roll of this big roll, you can save it for any future use(s) if you have a little room to store it unlike my BOSS(@home) do not allow me to buy more than needed things but when its need at odd times, and I tell her that I have that available and she don't need to spend, she just smiles but guess what...? That little smile on her face is priceless and pays much more than the total but there is one condition...and that is if you LOVE her dearly and always looking for the ways to see her smiling...Do you Love your LOVE? If the answer is YES, then please go and buy this big roll of 250 feet of Southwire Romex from the Home Depot where I have found the qualities much better than if you buy somewhere else to save few pennies or a few dollars...Thanks in advance and Good Luck on your project and that precious SMILE(s).

First I would like to say, this is the best packaged romex Ive ever held in my hands. It just feels good. The color is amazing. Notwithstanding the code that requires it to be yellow, I would say, excellent color choice. Now, the functionality. Electricity flows though this with such ease, at the speed of light I might add. Each conductor is carefully wrapped and the ground is free of patina, just like you should expect. I will surely purchase this again and would recommend it to my friends and family.

The only negative is the pricing difference between 100' roll and the 250' roll. I knew the 100' roll would have been more than enough for my project, and I don't see another electrical project in the near future, but the cost difference was so small, I bought the 250' roll, and just store the rest of it. I'm going off memory, but the 100' roll was approximately $55. while the 250' roll was $73

The cable had enough rigidity to move through the wall without any problems and was flexible enough to bend and go where it needed to. The individual wires were flexible enough to make terminating very easy.

I noticed it costs almost exactly the same per foot as a 50 foot piece. Unless you buy a really long piece, over 100 feet, there's no cost saving. The yellow outer insulation strips off easily, and the wire inside carries electricity.

You won’t confuse this wire for your average 15 amp wire - this is pure 12/2 and it shows with a passion!Includes black, white, and bare copper, as expected. Carries electrons with ease. Bendy.

Good product overall I guess I do not understand why they don't add casing to the ground just as an extra precaution it's so strange they'll gripe about so much stuff in code books but leave all kinds of bare wire in an outlet or breaker box etc... I get it its solid core but come on man!

Bought the big roll because price for smaller roll doesn't make any sense on a per foot basis. To keep the roll a little more tamed while working, partially cut the plastic wrapper and feed the coils out as needed.
