Answer This Question

A:  The reinforcement would depend on your local wildlife, but the coop is ready to use. If you have any further inquiries, please contact SummerHawk Ranch at info@ilovetocreate.com or send us a message on Facebook.

A:  I put a lock on the slider door just because we have lots of raccoons

    by|Feb 12, 2019

A:  I put a brace at the bottom of the door cuz a dog pushed in the door and tried to get our chickens but other than that no issues

      by|Feb 12, 2019

A:  Does not weather good in the Southeast Texas climate . Wood swells screws loosen then panels come apart

        by|Feb 13, 2019

A:  The material is light and thin but reinforcement is only needed if you intend to move the coop from spot to spot.

          by|Feb 13, 2019

A:  No modifications needed. I did cover the wire with 1/4" mesh to prevent larger snakes from getting inside, but it doesn't require it. It is easy to assemble and is sturdy.

Q:Do you use a medium on the pull out tray or leave it bare? Does wealther temperatures affect it?

            Answer This Question

A:  I used wood shavings in my coop. The temp did not seem to effect it but after a year it did start to rust in some pots.

            by|Nov 10, 2018

A:  Yes I would use some straw or the laying cushion mesh stuff to put in there just for added egg protection.

              by|Nov 11, 2018

A:  I use wood shavings on my pullout tray so the chickens are more comfortable.

                by|Nov 9, 2018

A:  Yea. It helps with cleaning also. We just used wood chips. There is a company out there that makes a hemp medium that is supposed to be chicken friendly also. As far as the weather I never had any problems.

                  by|Nov 11, 2018

A:  I put newspaper on the pull out tray and it makes it super easy to clean. I live in Fl so there's lots of sun and rain. The only thing the weather had affected is the pain. My cooperation is only a little over 2 years old but is holding up pretty well

                    by|Nov 10, 2018

A:  I put a light layer of pine shavings on the tray so the tray can still slide out for cleaning. If shavings cause tray to stick, it's easy to clear it. Temps don't seem to cause a problem with the sliding. Hope this helps!

A:  I don't know the exact size but it is small. I would say no taller than 4 feet. U would have to crawl on your hands and knees to get inside. 2 nesting boxes. I have 3 large chickens and it works for them but would really prefer it to be larger.

A bit expensive for what you get but we bought chicks intending to build but ran out of time so we bought this which has worked for the past year. Overall it looks nice and is easy to assemble but be careful not too over tighten as the pieces will crack if you don't watch out. I suggest this only if you can't build your own. I expect it to last a couple years at most but have already had to make some modifications as noted below. The coop does not really fit for birds unless you have some of the smaller breeds. We have 4 that find space to sleep at night (two on the roosting bars and two in nesting boxes) . There needs to be more space between roosting bars. My other complaint is the external nesting box leaks at the hinges. In less than a year that lid was showing signs of mildew and water damage. It is a cheaply constructed lid that is not solid wood. I'm replacing it with some scrap plywood and clearanced roofing shingles. We also took it off the run base, built our own base from 2x4 and attached it to our 5' x 10'. I also purchased a couple of laminate flooring squares and cot to fit the bottom of the nesting boxes. This allows it to be easier to clean out and also prevents bedding material from falling through the wood slat floor.

This product was not too hard to assemble. It met the needs that we have for our new chicks. We didn't expect so many of them to survive so we have now put another surrounding cage / fence around the original and they have meant much more room to run but it was very effective when they were small. It's really not big enough for more than a couple of full size hens. so are enclosure makes it more suitable.

Perfect setup with everything you need and more. Materials are less than top quality so keep that in mind and be careful not to over tighten any screws. If you are free ranging its perfect but if not, you will need to add some sort of pen for walking around room. I have only had this for a couple of weeks.

This was easy to install. My 2 hens were used to a huge coop but have transitioned to this one fine. The ladder fell off the first day though and i haven't reattached it since my girls just fly up to the nesting box. I let my hens out all day and they just go up in this coop at night and to lay their eggs during the day. Bought the expansion pen which attached easily and added a bit more space for the weekends i'm not able to let them free range. It's a good value for the money. My 5 year old loves to open the window and peak in at them. And gathering eggs is easy with the latch roof system.
