The unit is one piece. Due to installation on the second floor I contacted HD re removing the refrigerator so it was lighter to carry up the stairs. They indicated It could be easily removed, so we tried.It was difficult to remove due to sheet metal brackets on the bottom of the unit. It took 2 people to remove it. Once in place o, the 2nd floor our plumber had to cut holes in the sheet metal to attach the plumbing. It was impossible to move the refrigerator into the unit after plumbing was installed and it was secured to the wall. We had to remove the sheet metal screws and straps, which was difficult to do. The compact kitchen looks great, but the installation was much more complex. I would recommend removing the sheet metal straps and screws before the unit is attached to plumbing and the wall if you must remove it to decrease weight for moving it.
