Is 7? the overall length, or the length of the actual shank used for drilling? In other words, how deep can I drill a hole?

            Answer This Question

The answer from ITW Brands is incorrect. 7 inches is the overall length. The portion of the bit that drills is only 4.5 inches. Way shorter than 7 inches! The description of this product is misleading and should be updated.

7" is the length of the drilling portion of the bit.

Yes, just start with a smaller diameter bit so as not to break the brick.

Absolutely I drilled dozens of holes in hardened concrete, many times harder than brick.

Tapcon says to use a 7/16" bit for their 1/2" anchors -- is this 1/2" or 7/16"?

Hi DR, This is a 1/2" diameter drill bit. 1/2" Tapcon+ anchors require a 1/2" hole for installation. If you have further questions, please reach out to our team at 877-489-2726. Thank you!

Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the Tapcon 1/4 in. x 7 in. SDS drill bit performs well for drilling into concrete and masonry when used with a hammer drill. Many users appreciate its ability to create clean holes, especially for Tapcon screws, and note its compatibility with various drills. However, some customers experienced issues with durability, reporting that the bit dulled or broke after a limited number of uses. Overall, while the product is generally effective, users recommend being mindful of its longevity and the need for proper usage to maximize performance.

Worth the price as compared to cheaper ones I bought from amazon, the cheaper ones all broke in exactly the same location after drilling around 10 holes, this bit was the same price as buying 3 of the cheaper ones but it drilled more than 30 holes and is still going strong

The end on the drill is welded so you can't remove the drill bit and then use the nut driver to drill in the screw. You have to remove the drill bit from drill and use a separate nut driver. I don't get it??

I just picked up a box of Tapcon Screws and thought I better get a SDS bit to pre-drill so I can anchor some boards to my foundation in the basement. So looking around the fastener section I saw there was a Tapcon SDS that would work. In the past I always bought the Bosch SDS bit, but thought hey why not, four holes drilled into some very soft concrete and this bit is rounded over and this is using a Harbor Freight cheapy concrete hammer drill. Plain junk, buy the higher quality Bosch, I know this cost less than $8 bucks, but when you need a tool to perform don't skimp.
