Q:What degree of angle are these steps? I have seen some other types of deck stairs that are 20 degrees, and one that is 32 degrees.

Q:I am interested in how far apart the steps are and the top step to the deck itself. We have a ladder now, but that top step to the deck is too far for my elderly mother to make on her own.

Q:Can this ladder be stored straight up and down or does it have to lay on the dock.

Answer This Question

A:  It’s designed to lay flat. If you bolt it to the dock tightly it can stand straight up and down, but there is nothing but tension holding it there and it would fall eventually. I suppose you could rig some type of bungee on either side to hold it upright. When I remove mine from water I let it stand straight for a minute or so to fully drain the water out of it.

Q:Does the ladder need to rest on the lake bed or can it hang short of the lake bottom and support weight of climber

    Answer This Question

A:  It does not need to touch bottom. It was not designed to.

    by|Nov 5, 2022

A:  It is attached entirely to the deck, no bottom support needed. It is a little difficult to fold back out if the water, a rope attached to the bottom step will help with this. I use mine on my above ground pool attached to the deck. Much better than all other options I have tried.

Easy to get out of the water
We have a ShoreMaster dock on a freshwater lake with a soft lake bottom. We were able to attach the ladder to the end of the pier fairly easily. We used 7 inch long/ 3/8 inch diameter bolts and washers and nuts to fit. We used 2 - 1 x3 x 34 in. pieces of red oak under the dock to secure the ladder arms. We did not drill through the metal frame but we did drill through the cedar planks. This method was what we came up with to attach the ladder. There are no attachment instructions included with this product or attachment hardware. It would be helpful if there were some suggestions provided for installing the ladder.

Very sturdy!! Great look. Worth the investment for a safe, strong pool ladder for our family & friends. Amazing being able to pull up the ladder to clean under it and/or put the pool cover on.

The ladder works really well and the flip out design is awesome. The kids were so excited because the ladder would not get slimy. It is a little difficult to get out of the water, but not bad at all. You have to use a board as a lever to get it out of the lake enough to drain out the water from the inside, then you can use a rope tied to the bottom step to pull it on up or you can use the indentation that runs up the side to pull it up. It has a nice incline so you do not have to pull yourself up out of the water like you do on a vertical ladder. The steps are also wide so you feel secure going up and down the ladder. I have a child with depth perception issues as well as low muscle tone, so this ladder was perfect. We have an aluminum dock, so we had to put in a couple extra metal bars underneath the dock for added support so the aluminum top was not taking the force of the ladder. However, it was very doable.

          Rusts
Found this while searching for saltwater dock ladders. Hardware is not stainless steel and rusted completely even though ladder raised and washed down with my own pulley system after each use For an extra $2, this could have been avoided. 96.5% of the Earth’s water is contained within the oceans as salt water, while the remaining 3.5% is freshwater. Are they telling us that their ladders are intended to be sold for freshwater use only? What a marketing strategy to sell only to a maximum audience of 3.5% globally, especially with only one natural lake in the entire State of Texas. They can look that up, but it is Caddo Lake on the boarder with Louisiana. They also don’t stand behind their products. Said the following when simply asked about removing the rusted bolt: “Yes, in any saltwater environment, any hardware for any marine product should be switched to stainless steel. I'm sorry, I just don't see any method to remove the rusted hardware from the ladder without compromising the structural integrity.“

Installation was as expected and quality appears reasonable. The steps were not as ridged as anticipated when standing on the top steps. Retracting the steps is a little harder than expected. However, this ladder is installed on a river facing upstream with a slow current. Because of the difficulty in raising the steps, I am installing a pulley system that can raise the steps easier.

Frustrated that , after paying almost DOUBLE what other ladders cost, there were NO carriage bolts or lag bolts to attach it with.(Second trip to H.D. for that...) The steps are not as rigid as I thought they would be ( so I'm hoping it is durable enough to last for many seasons, without cracking or breaking...) Lastly, I needed a long board to leverage it out of the water( not the best of designs), when done using it. A pull rope might have been a better design solution...

I have an above ground pool with a deck and this is a great addition. I always disliked the ladders that come with above ground pools as they are a pain to get in and out of the water when you are using a pool cleaning robot since the robots always get twisted around the stairs. This ladder easily lifts up and out of the way for cleaning and saves a lot of headache and frustration.

We enjoy the wide steps - the angle makes if very easy to enter and exit the water. Instructions are simple and the ladder is very easy to install - I read negative reviews on lack of mounting hardware; but reality is, everyone has a different situation/set up and way to anchor the ladder on it's platform. I used 8 lag bolts and washers. Recommendation to use a 2x4 to raise it out of the water is spot-on - not sure it's possible to raise otherwise. I would definitely recommend.
