Does this have a one hour fire rating?

Asked by Susan July 21, 2020
1
Answer

No, the cover does not have a 1 hour fire rating. The foam board for our covers does contain a class "A" flame retardant.

Can sides be trimmed for a more custom fit?

Asked by JoeR July 18, 2020
1
Answer

If you are trimming the sides so they will fit closer to the "rough cut" of the attic opening there is no need with The Energy Guardian pull down ladder cover. Once the cover is installed it forms the pressure and thermal barrier (air sealing and insulating barrier) for the opening. Anything area inside the foot print of the cover is now part of the conditioned space (inside of the home). If you are trimming the cover due to obstructions in the attic the cover can be trimmed for those reasons. Hand saws and utility knives are acceptable tools for the job. Please contact our tech support team for any further questions (877-377-4674 x1). Thanks for your question.

Can I use this model if I don't have trusses on the sides? I prefer the one piece top.

Asked by DrexelLake February 8, 2020

Answer

It will depend on the dimensions of your pull down ladder. Please call in to technical support and we with the dimensions of your opening from inside your attic. 877-377-4674

Can this be installed in an attic that has no decking around attic ladder opening?

Asked by Kevin January 26, 2020
1
Answer

Yes, they are installed in attics without decking all over the country. Typically attics without decking require the use of 1 part spray foam. There are several brands that The Home Depot Carry in store. Please call us at 877-377-4674 and we can walk you through the process. It is very simple, but we at ESS Energy Products want to make sure you understand what to do.

My opening measures 24 x 54 and 17" with stairs folded up, will this fit?

No, the cover will not work on its own . We do have the solution for you. Please call us at 877-377-4674 and ask for technical support. We will have you fixed up in no time.

Will this fit a standard size that is 22" x 54"?

My opening is 25" x 53" inside, and 31" x 60" outside measurements. I have a 2" x 4" frame around the opening wide side of the boards down. I guess I can remove them if needed.

Made from high quality foam. Heavier than styrofoam and appears to be durable enough for the application. It seals well and should make a big difference in the heating bill. My attic entrance is a little wonky but otherwise the installation is straightforward. You do have to glue some pieces together with the included adhesive. Pretty simple but you need to allow time for glue to dry.

As a DIYer, I spent hours in my attic pulling out the old, dirty insulation, vacuuming, putting in foam baffles (what a pain!), air sealed the attic, and then putting down new insulation to go from something like R-9 to R-38 and then read a bunch of articles saying that if I didn't insulate the doorway, I was basically missing out on a lot of the need. This product offered a really high level of insulating value and is far easier to install than all of that insulation. It seems like a good value for what it is going to do. My package seemed to be missing the adhesive or maybe I lost it while unpacking the box (that was a lot of insulation...) so I called these guys--they were quite friendly and eager to have folks say something nice about their product. No, I didn't get anything for writing this, it just seemed easy to do when writing about something that does what it's supposed to do, is of value, and comes with good customer service.
