Q:Can these boards be bent and used for curved steps?
by|Jul 13, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Letyler! Thank you so much for your question! Yes, you can heat bend TimberTech deck boards to create custom curves and shapes. This process involves using heat and force to bend the boards into the desired shape. Typically, the most common way this is performed is by utilizing heat forming blankets manufactured by the company Heatcon. It is important to keep in mind that heat forming is considered more of an art than it is a science. There are many variables that could affect the process and even installers that are familiar with the process may get a few bends wrong before finding the right procedure. You can purchase these heat forming systems through Heatcon directly. https://www.heatcon.com/. You can also source a 3rd party company such a Bugh Inc https://www.bughinc.com/ who can custom bend the material to your specs and send the material to you. For more information on heat bending, please visit https://www.timbertech.com/ideas/curved-composite-decking/. I wish you the best of luck with your project! Q:Joist spacing?
        by|Jun 25, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Scott! Thanks for your question. We recommend a maximum joist spacing of 16" OC. For a more rigid feel, 12" may be preferred. You can follow this link to our Composite Decking Install Guide, where we go over joist spacing on page 4: https://www.timbertech.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/TimberTech-Composite-Decking-Installation-Guide_ENG.pdf. Happy with the Stocked In-Store color
Used the Camo screwing tool made for a cleaner finish. No issues with the product itself.

Cuts easily, weather's well. Have been using Home Depots composite brand for years. Is still looking good. Have tried other brands, they did not hold up to the varying weather here

Worst purchase ever- customer service never kept their promises. Delivery was a nightmare- extensive damage to lawn that never got repaired- Home Depot insurance for liability is a fraud- never followed through- never to purchase again

We are LOVING this product! I was already tired of applying stain every year (and always having spots that chipped right away (5-year my a--)), but then noticed rot. Decided to go manufactured, and had a few that sounded great (including from TimberTech) on Consumer Reports, but we're a) expensive and b) hard to get. Saw these at HD and liked the price. Wasn't sure about the color since our railing and stairs (which we weren't replacing) were red-ish, but my brilliant wife figured out that we could paint them black (there are black highlights in the boards). Used the Trex hidden fasteners which a) worked really well/were compatible and b) were in stock at HD (would've had to order the TimberTech). Loving the look (and feel - barefoot soft)!

Worst Mistake On a 100K Deck
1 month completed I now wish I had done one thing different, I wish I had not purchased this TimberTech Ashwood decking. As many others mention it scratches with a light breeze, seriously! Framing was 12-on-center using 2x12's and still some of the deck boards have warped. Some have raised on the ends while others in the middle, overall garbage. If you're spending what I spent to build a new deck my advice is to either go with traditional Cedar or the better known competitor to this product.

              Fantastic Product
Fantastic product, used screws vs clips. Cut ends need special glued on pieces to match top. Wish they sold those. We are in Eastern Washington with wind and dry climate, Jensen this pvc decking is required to last years. Would use again. Deck is over 450 square feet. So expensive but very nice. Waiting for swim spa!

              Love it
I rebuilt my bridge after 20 years as a Covid project so have lived with the Azek Vintage in Mahogany for 2 full years and I love it. My old composite got slippery in the winter so I tore it out and replaced it. We live in Minnesota so I shovel it (with a plastic shovel, not metal) and have both rinsed it with the hose and pressure washed it. No problem. I followed the instructions on stringer spacing and anticipated it expanding in the sun and left appropriate gaps to accommodate.
