Q:Will this stick to laminate or veneer covered wood?
by|Mar 17, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A:Â Titebond III will bond to high pressure laminate (HPL) such as Formica to a particle board or wood surface. Titebond III will also bond veneer to other wood surfaces. If the wood substrate is finished, then bonding strength and ability will depend on the type of finish on the substrate. Call Titebond's Technical Service line at 800-347-4583 to discuss your specific needs.

A:Â There are specialized glues such as Shoe Goo that would be much better for that purpose. Titebond would work initially but I do not believe it would hold up.

Q:How long does it take to dry?

Answer This Question
A: Drying time will vary with environmental conditions and the moisture content of the wood being bonded. With standard conditions of 8% moisture content, 70°F and 50% Relative Humidity, Titebond III should be clamped for a minimum of 30 minutes (2 hours best) or longer. Machining of the bonded wood should wait until 24 hours for best results. For table tops, it is best to wait 72 hours before final sanding to reduce chances of forming glue ridges.

A:Â It says 30 min. but don't believe it. I always clamp it down tight overnight. Titebond III has never failed me. Made beams to hold up my son's house. As well as many other projects. Stuff is the best. Be patient and you will be very happy.

Indoor/outdoor wood glue
I am making a cover for a well in a friends yard and decided to make it look like a little Tardis from Dr Who. I used 1.5x1.5 inch pieces of wood to put in the inside corners of the box for strength and used Titebond 3 and wood screws to hold it in place. For the outside I used 3/16 inch thick strips of wood for cosmetic purposes only and used the Titebond 3 and a brad nailer to hold the strips in place while the wood glue dried. The reason I'm using Titebond 3 is because it is rated for outdoor use.

Strong joints
While making 1 inch thick end grain cutting boards from a mixture of oak, maple, ash and walnut my first pass on the end grain with planer exploded the piece. All the glued joints with titebond 3 were still intact. Only the wood shattered, not the joints.

This appears to be the only outdoor wood glue to work on the Scrabble Tiles we use on the Little Free Library my wife and I made for our community. The tiles would often fall off with the clear epoxy we originally used. The Sunlight and heat would cause issues with the tiles falling. Titebond has done incredibly well for the last three months. I would recommend this product in all exterior applications bonding wood to wood.
