Q:I need to know which shear pins to purchase for the Toro 824OE snowblower. The marketing was deceptive in saying there were no shear pins on this model. However there ARE shear pins. Thank you.

A:  My Toro 840OE does not have sheer pins. They are bolts with nuts.

Q:My 824 arrived yesterday. I live at 7500 feet. I don't see a sticker indicating adjustment for high altitude use. My entire zip code is well above 500 feet. May I assume that this adjustment has occurred?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi, there! Thanks for your question. Since you are using this machine above 1500 m (5,000 ft) for a continuous period, you will need to ensure that a High Altitude Kit has been installed so that the engine meets CARB/EPA emission regulations. The High Altitude Kit increases engine performance while preventing spark-plug fouling, hard starting, and increased emissions. For this unit, you will need High Altitude kit #133-9937. Once you have installed the kit, attach the high-altitude label next to the serial decal on the machine. For any additional questions, please feel free to contact Toro Customer Support at 1-888-384-9939. Hours are Monday – Friday 8:00am-4:30pm CST. Thanks!

            Quality issue
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this snowblower today rams new from my locale dealer and there was a bolt missing holding the belt cover down. Not a big deal went down to the hardware store and purchased one. The other issue I have is the plastic shroud below the spout had a bolt that was way over tightened and the bolt head is almost pulled through the shroud I’m certain it won’t last long. I have always heard that toro makes a high quality item. After these two issues I’m questioning it. Machine came out of the crate this way. Other than these two issues it looks like a great unit with some nice features

              So far so good
Just picked this up and used it on the leftover snow left on my driveway. It was roughly 18 inches of snow from last month the snow storm plus this last snow storm from a week ago. So it was a very good test to see how well it would work. It performed very well. Chewed through the tough, partial ice patched snow pack. It chewed it up, threw it 20 away without an issue. Well built. What you typically expect from Toro. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for these days.

                My Toro beast!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Runs like a champ. Now I need some snow! That being said, assembly instructions could’ve been better. Depended way too much on diagrams without supporting text (full disclosure, I’m a Technical Writer that does this for a living). Thankfully, I’ve owned a Toro snow blower (3521) before so I had some idea of what to expect and was able to guide a friend who bought the 24” version of this. I might’ve guaranteed no snow on my block this year, but if it comes, I’ll be ready.

Used it once this year and it got up the snow. They stuck the oil drain to close to the tire I know changing the oil will be a pain now.

                Extremely disappointed with this purchase...
My Toro is a good example of why I hesitate to purchase American made products. Quality Control is just a term they like to use. I purchase this snowblower and the chute does not lock in place when I let up on the control button. So... look at the manual to see how I might fix something that should have been set correctly at the plant and find out that the image in the manual does not match what I have. I took it to the local warranty shop only to have them saw that this isn't under warranty because... it's an "adjustment." I guess if you buy a product, the internals of which wasn't assembled correctly at the plant, that's now considered a non-warranty "adjustment" to have it done correctly. At least point me to where I can purchase a service manual and I'll fix it myself. It'd also be helpful if the service manual diagrams reflected reality. The person at the warranty shop couldn't figure it out either after seeing the photos.

Powerful for All Types of Snow
We live at 4200 ft in an area that gets dumped on. After 40” of powder we ended up getting a nasty 6” of wet slush. This blower handle both with no issue at all! Sure you need to make a couple passes when it gets deep, but this blower can handle that. Remember it doesnt come with headlights so prepare accordingly for early or late uses with some LEDs.

                    Great machine!
Finally got to use my new blower on our 38" snowfall on 12/16-17. Works quite well. So much easier to maneuver compared to my last blower. Very satisfied customer. Please note that my dependability rating of "3" starts is simply because I've only been able to use the blower 1 time. Wish there were a N/A option.

I'm 77 and my husband is 86. We can both operate this snowblower. We live on one acre and the driveway and turn around areas are gravel. This unit has adjustable "shoes" to raise the auger so it doesn't dig into the gravel. It is very powerful, easy to start and a welcome addition to our mechanized fleet (ie riding lawn mower, sprayer, rototiller, etc.). It was already put together at the store which is a plus.
