Yes the engine continues while the blade is stopped. This allows you to empty the grass catcher without stopping the engine and restarting it.

Last model was a standard self-propelled version with mulching and bagging options. Just an awesome machine. This new Toro is complete garbage. Where to start...First, there is no primer on this mower so after the first year, you will have to disconnect the spark plug, reconnect the plug, hold the mower at a 45 degree angle for a good thirty seconds to allow gas flow and then pray you get a start. Secondly, I think the blade stop system is a nice safety feature if you have teens using your mower; however, once you stop the blade, you can wait up to a full minute or so for the blade to rotate at full power. Sounds like a WWII aircraft going down when it's trying to re-engage. The engine is so weak I have to stop every five feet or so to let the blade re-engage and come up to full speed during a cut. I probably add a good 45 minutes to an hour each mow. Next, the grass discharge chute is cheap and one of the tabs broke off my second cut when I gently brushed a shrub with the chute. My previous version of my Toro mower had the larger rear wheels making for a smooth cut and acute turns. This thing is like flying through a thunderstorm in a prop plane it shakes so badly. I contacted HD and my warranty is up. Toro jacked me around on the phone for over an hour and pointed to the warranty as well. As a note, I cut on a relatively high setting out of necessity and it is still no help. If you like to cut your grass twice every weekend, then this mower is for you. If not, please consider another option. This mower is in its third season, but the problems escalated year by year. I'm going Honda for the double blade and larger engine.

Easy start and stop. Not as good on the hills as I want it to be, but on a small incline, the assist is a nice feature.

Item was easily replaced and all parts in box. Mostly easy to assemble. Handle lever a little tricky to put together - not too clear on instructions, but worked well after I figured it out. The mower is fantastic!!! Goes up and down hills in yard easily. No more chasing mower down the hill, it stays with you - just like it says "personal pace". Unbelievable! Side chute is great. Haven't tried the mulch or bagger yet. No strain on my back. Takes 3 pulls to start.

This is our 6th Toro so we like the quality and reliability of Toro mowers. This product feels a bit "cheaper" than the others, but we love the ease of starting and the blade stop system. The engine is peppy as well. My only compliant is when the engine is off and you want to push the mower, say to put it away, the rear wheels are sluggish as if the self propelled system is still engaged. My other self propelled mowers don't have this issue.

I purchased this mower 26 months ago and it sounded strange right from the beginning. Now after 26 months it will no longer start because of a bad carburetor and Toro will not warranty it. $200 to repair a 2 year old $400 lawn mower is not OK. Customer service for Toro was not good. DO NOT BUY TORO!

I have owned other Toro mowers in the past, This model works well but it is not like the older models. There is no manual throttle control on the new model and it is made of a lot of plastic parts (engine cover) Also I was disappointed it was hencho (made) in Mexico? Also there was a lot of cutting out of the engine at times.

I love it but the top of the mower deck, on the back side of motor, fills with grass clippings coming from the black plastic cover part of the rear bagger attachment. Yes, I do have the bagger/recycler lever in the recycler "up" position.
