What does Contract Allure flooring mean vs. just Allure flooring?

I want to purchase your Allure plank resilient flooring and am interested in Alpine Elm at $2.09 sq ft versus the Contract Alpine Elm at $2.29 sq ft. What does Contract mean? Thank you.
Asked by: GBFI
Contract has a .4 mil commercial-grade wear layer with a ceramic bead overlay vs Alpine Elm that has only .4 mil wear layer. Because some reviewers of Alpine Elm complained it scratches I went with the Contract grade and so far no scratches or chips. Very durable worth the extra cost.

I am concerned with expansion and contraction. How much contraction would occur from 50 to 90 deg F, gap width?

Asked by: Huge
Thank you for your question. Allure must be installed in a room where the temperature is between 65-85F (18-30C) during installation. After installation, temperatures should remain between 55F. and 85F. Failure to follow these guidelines will void the warranty.

Should it be installed under the fridge?

I know its supposed to be 'floating' so not sure if the fridge will prevent this.
Asked by: Cheryl
Thank you for your question. This flooring can be installed under the refrigerator.

Customer Reviews

Allure Contract 6 in. x 36 in. Alpine Elm Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring (24 sq. ft. / Case) is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not exactly what I thought but it will work It isn't the loose lay vinyl I was looking for but I knew what I was getting. It is for a small 50 sq/ft bathroom area. Hint- figure out which corner to start in first and make your life easier with adhesive strip outwards. They do not cut easily with a utility knife- AT ALL. And yes, I replaced the blade several times. Even with a speed square the knife takes off and doesn't go straight. I ended up using heavy duty utility scissors and ruined them. Most of the strips snug up tightly but once they are down and on the adhesive it is difficult to get everyone of them in tight. A few areas still have a very tiny space that I could not squeeze together . It looks nice and seems like a decent quality but time will tell. It is super thin material and I worry about having nothing under it and directly on the concrete floor. If I had to do it over again I probably would not purchase this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Flooring What is the difference between this Contract Alpine Elm and Alpine Elm? Besides it costing .20 cents more a square foot? It has .4 mil commercial-grade wear layer with a ceramic bead overlay. I went with contract grade after reading reviews of the regular Alpine Elm where some people mentioned it scratches easily. So far it is worth it, no scratching. Easy to install. No power tools needed. Because we didn't need to go outside to cut boards with a saw this floor took half the time to install compared to the laminate floor we put in upstairs. We used a metal T-square, utility knife with extra blades, hand roller, and tin snips. Cutting the planks is easy just score it with the knife then bend & snap. The tin snips are for small cuts needed around door frames. We kept the baseboards up, I don't see why you would need to remove them, and after installing the floor finished it off with shoe molding (quarter round) to hide the 1/8th inch gap recommended by the manufacturer. This floor is flexible, (not rigid like laminate flooring)perfect for our basement floor that has slight slopes (unevenness) like most concrete floors have. We filled in any dips. It is also water resistant. If children spill, no problem. Handles items being dropped on it, no chipping. Although we put felt furniture pads on all the furniture some items got move by mistake before the pad got placed, but they didn't scratch the floor. Drawback: black sole shoes will leave skid marks. This floor can go anywhere Kitchen, Bathroom, Living room ect. Biggest challenge is getting the planks tight to each other if you don't you will see the gap in the seems, we used bisque colored caulk to fill it in. The floor has a lot of neutral tans & cream colors in it. Also once you put a piece down you are committed almost impossible to separate after only a few seconds (use a blow dryer to warm it up if you wait to long). Tips: start in the upper left corner of the room and each row will lay left to right. There is a good how to video on youtube showing how to lay it the correct way. The floor surface must be clean, free of dirt and debris. Any dirt will attach to the adhesive strips effecting the seal. Any debris will show as a bump in the floor. take the extra time to sweep, vac & mop before starting. We also invested in knee pads and a garden seat/cart. We did this as a 3 person team one person cutting, one laying, and one runner. We repeated the length of the first board by full, 2/3, 1/3. Because this color is not carried in stores and I wanted a light floor for the basement I ordered it based on the photos and I love it. Free delivery to our door was great!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seams open up too easily and ruins the look. Might be good for a single room but running from one room to another will cause the seams to open due to expansion/contraction cycles. This leaves dark voids between the planks, Even with a large opening between rooms, and proper edge spacing, the weight of flooring and furniture will keep the floor from floating and cause the seams to open.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great flooring Flooring was easy to install. Only simple tools required. Has the look and feel of more expensive flooring. Highly recommend. I had to order this specific color, but the people at Home Depot were great with their customer service and the order process.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ok The manufacturer has changed the width of the sealing tabs to a wider design. If you try to use a new piece against an older piece you have left over from a previous order you MUST cut down the size of the tab or you will have a gap or hump depending how you start the coupling. The flooring is easy to install and attractive. I am sorry to have had a bad experience in the last room I completed due to improvements in the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Manufacturing Issues I originally ordered two boxes of this flooring mid February, which was shipped pretty quickly, only to open it up and find out 1 box contained cracked vinyl and the other had a manufacturing issue where all the vinyl was attached to one another in pairs, sticky side to sticky side. No problem, I brought them back and reordered them. Customer service was wonderful and extremely helpful. The next two boxes (which took 1.5 weeks to arrive) arrived with the same exact manufacturing issue and again had to be returned. I do not recommend this product, or even brand, to anyone looking to do vinyl.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Allure Flooring Alpine Elm Super pleased with this product. Used it in our laundry room. Matched the color with a sage paint color and re-did the whole room. Considering doing a larger room in the house with the Allure products. They are great!
