Minor Patching Repairs

Sand repair area and fill with joint compound. Let harden. Add second coat if necessary. Sand and prime when dry.

Embedding Joint Tape

Fill seams with compound. Apply tape, smooth onto compound with taping knife. Spread thin second coat on top of tape.

Covering Fasteners

To determine if fasteners are seated, draw clean knife over each. If metallic ring occurs, carefully drive fastener below surface.

Finishing Tip

Use fine-grit sanding block to prevent digging into compound. Avoid roughening surface paper. (Repair roughening with small amount of compound.)

Q:Does redi mix mud need to be thinned with water?

Answer This Question

A:  Thinning is not required. It's ready to use, but you may want to thin it, depending on how you plan to use it. I used it to texture a wall, and I needed to apply it with a paint roller, so I did thin it with water.

      A:  Kimberly USG does not recommend applying joint compound over wood paneling. Hope this helps.

        A:  Annita Thank you for your inquiry. We do not recommend adding paint, or anything other than small amounts of clean drinkable water to Sheetrock ready mix joint compounds. Hope this helps.

          Q:How many square feet of coverage for one coat? I?m doing all purpose for initial coat. Plus 3 for 2nd or even third. Then a topping coat for final.

          A:  Justin The coverage rates for ready mix joint compounds are based on a level 4 finish. Approximately 10 gallons of All Purpose joint compound will finish 1000 square feet of wallboard up to a level 4 finish. Coverage approximates the amount of joint compound needed to treat the flat joints, inside corners and outside corners using metal corner bead, in a typical room. Coverage can vary widely depending on factors such as condition of substrate, tools used, application methods and other job factors.

                  Partially empty bucket
                  When I got home 1/3 of the bucket was empty and missing product. I took it back and the whole pallet was that way. They cheated the customer even with these higher prices.

                    Easy for first time drywall project
                    Got two of these for my garage remodeling project. Just use a mixer attachment with your power drill to mix it up. Added a little water for final coat to thin it out - but just a little water. For a first time doing mudding, it was breeze to use in my opinion.

                      Excellent product, my wife and I are having a blast applthis product. Very easy but for first timers please mix it!!! It comes ready to use, but mix it because once you get how ever you need...(thick, thin, custard, yogurt, etc.) So EASY, skim coats excellently, and covers a lot, (2 buckets has done a livingroom, hallway, and kitchen) really good!!! We actually have popcorn walls(don't know what thats about), we tried to paint to over look it, did not work.
