A: Great question, Mike! In ideal conditions, Rust-Oleum Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain can be topcoated after 1 hour. Darker colors may need slightly longer. Make sure all excess stain is removed and that the surface feels dry prior to applying the polyurethane. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
A: Thank you for reaching out! The final color of Rust-Oleum Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain will be dependent on the condition and color of the wood you are staining. Because of this, we always recommend applying in a test area first to ensure a favorable color. Please keep in mind, this product must be applied to bare, sanded wood. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
A: Thanks for reaching out, Lynda. Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain can only be applied over bare wood. If the previously stained wood does not have a sealer, this stain can be applied. We recommend first testing in an inconspicuous area to ensure mixing of the two stains will produce the desired color. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
