****DO NOT GET THIS PRODUCT**** Some people may have gotten lucky, but this product is not for floors. Our second coat finish came out having severe alligator skinning and air bubble patches throughout a 700 sq ft floor. I have a displaced customer and we had to hire another company to come in and re-sand and apply a commercial grade finish product. I am out thousands of dollars. We sanded down to bare wood, put a varathane sealer product on and then proceeded with the first coat which went on fine. Sanded between coats and removed dust with a damp (non-silicone added cloth), let that dry and then applied a second coat. We used a lambs wool applicator, not a roller to apply the coats. The pro team was able to peal the alligator skin with their fingers down to the wood after 72 hours of cure time...it was still soft. Also the temp was maintained around 70 degrees. We did all of the right steps when applying this product, and now we are out thousands of dollars. Pictures included. I have been a carpenter for 17 years and this is a bad product not meant for floors. The pro team said that the home depot floor stuff is never a good idea. Get a commercial grade product for your floors.

Worked great for old and new floors
I have a 125 year old house. I brushed this on to our original wide plank wood floors, and it came out beautifully. I could walk on it after about 5-6 hours no problem. I also used this on fairly new solid wood flooring that came with a coat on it. It had gotten worn down from moving chairs around on it. It covered up the rough spots, hardened them well. I could still tell where the floor had worn, but I expected that. I recommend this. Easy project.

      Very pleased
I am very pleased with this top coat. We covered about 700 square feet of hardwood floor with great results. The top coat did a great job at enhancing the colors. I applied 2 coats about 8 hours apart, at which point I could walk on the floor with socks. Very happy with the product.

          Great product
I’ve used this poly extensively. My first use was on older, previously finished wide board pine floors. They’d been maintained with Murphy’s Oil, which made preparing them for proper adhesion of poly quite a challenge. I scrubbed them with a 3M green scrubbie and diluted automotive degreaser that I rinsed off well. The floors came out great. I liked the softer glow so much I used it on a dining room table. It’s a great product that doesn’t show brush marks. I never used a lambs wool applicator, but instead got on my hands and knees and applied with well vacuumed foam roller and tipped out the bubbles with a fresh foam brush, also vacuumed, using up several brushes. This puts on a thin coat, but comes out great. On floors I applied 3 coats. Tedious, but lasted for years until I sold the house. Thereafter I just washed those floors with diluted Windex using a Swiffer like arrangement with a hand towel which made life so easy. Never had a problem with this product.

            Damaged cans
The product is fine but I have an issue with the shipping. Both cans arrived damaged. It looked like someone used them as a football and one was leaking. The damage was not done during shipping since the box it arrived in was not damaged.

            This is an excellent product
I originally put water-based Varethane on my maple floor about 6 years ago and it is ruined to the point that I had to use wood bleach (not to mention a lot of sanding) to get the floor to a presentable condition. Water-based poly is a bad idea for floors. Sure, it goes on easy and doesn't smell, but every time you leave a wet sponge or other damp item on the floor, expect permanent stains. This stuff, by contrast was pretty stinky to put on, but repels water like a newly waxed car. The fumes were relatively short lived. Our house has excellent exhaust ventilation so we could have easily slept in the house and not gotten a headache. Be warned that this item is mail order only and takes a while to get delivered. If your delivery gets damaged and returned (mine did) it can really put a damper on your project schedule. I did lambs wool applicator for two coats and brushed on the last. I would brush two coats if I had to do again. Don't bother trying to clean and save your brush. This stuff is so sticky, tough, durable, and hard that even a very thoroughly cleaned brush will be rock solid the next day. Make sure you mask carefully and don't drip or spill. Be very careful peeling your tape. My foam knee pads lightly scratched the 3 day old surface cured in low humidity. Make sure your furniture has felt pads to protect the finish. It does stay soft for two weeks or so even in relatively low humidity. To me, however, I am glad I stuck to my guns and insisted this particular product. I am extremely happy with the results.

The ONLY polyurethane for high traffic areas
It is a shame Home Depot doesn't stock this in their stores, it is online only. I was steered towards this product more than 15 years ago by a guy who did floors for a living. This is what they use for bowling lanes. MUCH better than the Minwax products. I have an office floor I refinished 15 years ago and it still looks like the day I did it. They also make water based products which are probably fine for low-traffic areas. But if you want maximum durability use an oil based polyurethane, and of those products this is the best you can buy.
