Can this be used to go on a floor already covered in polyurethane?

Daniel, we strongly advise removing any previous coatings before applying Varathane Stain and Polyurethane. Proper surface preparation is important. Please follow instructions thoroughly. Surfaces must be clean, dry and sound. Remove any existing finishes with sandpaper or a stripper. Prepare bare wood for staining by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with a 150 grit sandpaper and progress through 180 and 220 grits. Before using the product, remove all sanding dust with a vacuum or a clean rag dampened with mineral spirits.

Glad to help out, Ed. We recommend applying Rust-Oleum Varathane Stain + Poly with a good quality brush or clean, lint-free rag. Make sure to remove any existing finishes with sandpaper or stripper. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

The color popped out alot, and I could have actually made it darker but I decided to only do 3 coats. It dries very fast. This is the first time I've ever used this product and I have to say that it surpassed my expectations. It made me feel like I had just purchased a whole new bed room set which is about 7 years old. Will definitely use this product again and totally recommend it.
