not black
I ordered black mulch in bulk from a local garden supply store but was a little short, so I substituted with 6 bags of this mulch from home depot. as you can see, the color is not black but rather a greyish-brown compared to the dark black mulch that I purchased from the garden supply store.

Buyer BEWARE - FADES & STAINS
Not sure how good (functionality) this product is, but what a nightmare it was to clean up the mess - Purchased 7 bags at Home Depot on 3/7/23 - Didn't realize until I got home that at least 2 bags had water and holes in them. They leaked all over the inside of my truck and onto the driveway. It took me an hour to clean up the mess and the stains still didn't come up fully. I will never use this product again.

Lost color
Began to loose its rich brown color after only 2-3 weeks, some spots even sooner. Very wet with dye. Brown kitty tracks all over the cement from walking on the mulch as it was being spread. Easy to spread but compacts very quickly despite being in areas of zero foot traffic. Reasonable price but won’t purchase this brand again. Bought 50 bags.

This mulch kept it's color
This mulch is dyed using iron oxide and it kept its color here in New Hampshire for the entire time we had it laid down in our garden beds around the house until we went with stone instead.
Our area is plagued with termites and they really love the dampness that mulch provides for the plants around it which was not ideal for us after all. I would recommend Vigoro brands though since it did look great for almost two years.

Not the same color or consistency.
Supposed to be 12 month color guarantee red mulch. As you can see they are definitely two different colors one is a pretty red and the other is brown.

Black when new and wet, Gray soon after
I put this mulch in several flower beds and in several areas including under large hedges after removing red mulch, a lot of hard work. Looked great and then turned gray within 2 weeks. My wife described it as dried dog poo color. Do not buy or use. Won’t last one month. See photos of about 1 week between installing more mulch under hedges.

Big Pieces of Wood
Purchased 6 bags of brown mulch from Home Depot in Venice, Florida. Got home and unloaded (heavy bags) and started putting down. Not happy with product. A lot of big chunks of wood which I picked up and threw out, couldn’t rake into mulch, just laid on top. Did put down all 6 bags as I didn’t have the energy to put back into vehicle and haul back to store. But won’t buy again when time to refresh.
