Q:Can you use a drill or impact to drive these in??? What's the top of this look like?

Answer This Question

A:  AtomsForEnergy, thank you for your question. The top of the anchor has a hook in which it will go in by hand with some force. ~Best, Liberty Hardware Customer Care Team

Q:Will these fit into a 1/4 inch diameter hole

      Answer This Question

A:  I’m not sure what you are asking.  The anchor is driven into the ground using leverage such as a large screw driver or a tire iron with the tip cutting into the ground.  The metal is roughly 1/4 inch diameter (I don’t have it in front of me to look at) but the overall diameter of the helical part is roughly 2 inches.  Depending on soil type, hitting roots, stones etc. it may be fairly easy to drive in or difficult.

      by|Mar 19, 2023

A:  These are made to be screwed into the earth, not wood, steel or concrete. There is no reason to have a drilled "pilot" hole. Mine are into a loam mix and work quite well stabilizing a large wooden arbor that gets open wind gusts.

          Q:Would this hold a 180lb dog?

          Answer This Question

A:  That would depend on where the anchor is installed. If it is hard clay, probably yes. If sand or loose gravel maybe a 20 pound dog.

            A:  Absolutely

            by|Oct 2, 2022

A:  These are pretty beefy anchors but just like a wood screw into a board, the screw alone does not determine the ultimate holding power.  The screw anchor embedded in a compacted, dense soil will probably hold. Also, the lateral force on the anchor head created by an 180 pound animal does not create 180 pounds of force.  What is that load? It depends on what runs by causing the dog to lunge.  All in, this anchor stands a good chance of holding.  The leash attached should be of comparable quality to be effective.

                Good quality
The package arrived within 2 days. The anchors have a good quality: Welds , thickness of the components etc. unfortunately, right before the installation, discovered under the soil there is a gravel base about 1-0 depth. Decision was made not to even try to install the anchors into a gravel base . So the brand new anchors was returned in brand new condition. Will definitely buy next time for another project but lesson learned will do soil study before ordering these anchors.

It did the job I needed for... anchoring down shed
Although I had the afterthought of anchoring down the outdoor shed after I have fully assembled and placed on by back yard, I barely had clearance to anchor down the base of the shed using four of these spiral anchor. Only downside for me was I did not have enough room to pry and turn the anchors down, they went in a bit angled and not flat on the surface...

I used these (4) 16inch anchors to support holding down a 14 foot trampoline here in florida. Used them along side with some wrench straps. That puppy isn't budging. Thanks for making such a great product.

I wanted something that once I screw it into the ground I can mow over it and the dog can’t bend it. We have a 75# dog that has pulled the cheaper ones you get at WM or some pet stores because they don’t have that many spirals. I put one in at the back corner of the patio and so far she hasn’t moved it. I plan on putting one more behind the garage. I needed a long pry bar, to put through the D-ring, to screw it into the ground. This is a very heavy duty.

Original descriptions below. Liberty Outdoors 16 in. Steel Folding Ring Spiral Anchor (4-Pack) Make it quick, easy, and secure with the Liberty Outdoor Vortex Residential Ground Anchors. Secure the kid's play set or swing set, hold down outdoor furniture that keeps blowing away, or keep a tarp secured over a boat or RV. Vortex anchors are rugged yet easy to use. Just take a small tube, piece of pipe, or a large screwdriver insert in the triangle link at the top of the anchor and turn. As you turn, the anchor slowly screws into the ground with little effort. Luckily after all the rain the 18” anchor screwed into the ground reasonable easily. The anchor was used to secure and older swing set to keep the legs from moving off the ground. When the bigger kids used the swing set the legs would lift off the ground. I ran the cable up the leg around the outside and around the top brace and again down the back leg. It worked great. I purchased vinyl coated cable from the local Home Depot and aluminum crimp collars and swivel snaps. You can purchase the same items at Home Depot.com and look for 1/8” x 20’ Galvanized Dog Run cable. Just wrap the cable around the legs on the front and back or around the top several times to shorten if necessary. SKU number 277631.

Very robust nice anchors with a ring that folds down. These are no-nonsense anchors ideal for anchoring big guy lines or items around a dock in a lake. They are coated in a bright orange paint enabling them to be easily seen. The ends have a sharp point and come with a plastic cap to prevent them puncturing things and people! The spiral part is a full 16 inches long and have an outside diameter of about 2-½ inches. The steel rod from which they are made is about ⅜ inch thick. See attached pictures. The internal space within the folding attachment ring at the top is an inch wide and a bit more than that in height. I will be using these to hold a few items around my dock when the water warms up a bit more to get into the water. I have full confidence that they will also survive the Maine winter freezing too.

These Spiral Anchors seem to be very heavy duty for their size. I used one to attach an anti theft cable for a decorative bench on our front porch. We have very sandy soil and it was still a chore to screw it into the ground all the way. I used a 2 foot steel bar through the ring to assist in getting it in all the way. Once screwed in it is very solid and would not be easy to pull out. Since the ring folds flat it was easy to cover with gravel to hide it completely. The overall length is just under 18" The screw diameter is 2.25 inches The D ring is about 1 7/8 inches high and it has a sharp point to help with getting it started in the ground.

These Vortex steel spiral anchors arrived safely with double boxing. They are just what I need in my yard because our hill is so windy. They are perfect for securing trees, ornaments, furniture, shelters, tarps, or any other outdoor equipment. The loop comes in handy to screw them into place and I like how the loop lays flat after being inserted into the ground if they are not being used. The orange color makes it easy to spot, but I may put a green or brown layer of paint on those that I want to blend in with their surroundings. This set of 4 anchors has excellent powder coating, sharp tips, handy loops, and strength. They each weigh 2.7 lbs. and measure about 3/8" thick. They have a diameter of about 3". They go into the ground easily except when there is a huge rock beneath them. I usually hammer a thin spike into the ground to check the clearance before inserting anything into our rocky area and I use a rebar to twist while installing them. It is nice that they come in a variety of sizes and Home Depot also offers them individually.
