About This Product

Remember when you had a clean work shop. Control the mess and minimize cleanup with the WEN 1,300 CFM 5-Micron Dust Collector. Our powerful motor provides up to 14 Amp of dust collection power, creating up to 1,300 cu. ft. per minute of high velocity circulation. very nice machine, powerful motor, instructions...
Got this a few days ago. Powerful motor. I've gotten along with just a 20amp circuit (instead of 25amp), no problems. Assembly wasn't too bad, instructions weren't too bad, but they need MORE DETAIL. Casters poor, don't like to turn. Wen, you listening? Labeling the parts bags would be useful. Fig 3: bottom bracket has to be put on motor first (washers on both the nut and bolt side) Step 11 (handle), should be done with Step 5. I'd buy it again!!! (out of chars...)

Bottom bag retention system is inconvenient
For those you looking for a tool that doesnt have tedious/inconvenient steps that provide excess frustration, avoid this model. The retention system for the bottom plastic bag is very frustrating, more frustrating than building the rest of the unit. Considering this is one of the few things you need to frequently do with this tool, it really turns the whole thinf into a real bummer.

I have a small shop in my garage that I use for occasional projects and bought this thing so I wouldn't have to keep emptying the vacuum every 15 minutes. I carefully read each review and checked out many other brands before I decided that this was the machine for me. Shipping wasn't too bad as far as the wait goes, however, the shipping company sure beat the heck out of the box. I was worried that some of the hardware would be missing because there was obvious holes in the box. I got lucky and everything was included. Setting this up was very easy, especially if you can follow directions. I wish they would have included a little more detail to the bolts used in specific locations, but after laying everything out, it took most of the guesswork out of it. I already had a 20amp NEMA receptacle that was dedicated specifically to a 40 gallon Air Compressor so I didn't have to run a new dedicated circuit for this dust collector. I have the receptacle on a dedicated circuit that uses a 20a breaker in my panel. The instructions state to put it on a 25a breaker, but that would entail running 10 guage wire to the receptacle if following code. The 20a circuit I ran uses 12 guage Romex and according to the instructions, the 25a circuit breaker is to allow for a higher inrush current at motor start up. I do not trip my 20a breaker at all and after the machine starts running I believe it only runs at around 15amps. I have not tried starting it with both dust ports open. I read a review where the writer stated that by keeping one of the ports closed, helps with keeping the inrush current lower. I don't know if that's true or not but I only have my collector hooked up to one machine at a time and I keep the other port sealed with the cap that comes with the machine. Another reviewer stated they have problems with the factory casters that come on the machine. I went and bought new larger casters with lock tabs but I couldn't find any that would line up with the factory holes already drilled in the base, so I didn't use them. The factory casters work perfectly fine for me. The directions specifically state that when moving the assembly to utilize the grab handle that you install. By using the handle, I find that the machine moves around easily in my garage. The machine doesn't wander on it's own as the weight of it seems to keep it in one place. A little bit of advice on the handle installation: the instructions call for it being installed darn near last, but if you do this, it's a pain in the butt to get to the nuts as the dust collector bag is already installed. Before I installed the bag, I put the handle on and it was a lot easier. I also used some duct tape on the filter bag to keep it in place in the overhead bracket. As far as performance on this thing goes, I couldn't be happier. My father owns a different brand one and his only filters fine dust and doesn't do anything for the larger particles thrown off by a planer or jointer. I have been working on some hardwood Ash for trim in my family room that I bought a bunch of from a local sawmill in rough sawn. This thing doesn't leak dust, nor does it have a problem sucking everything out of the machine you're using it on. It's quieter than my vacuum. Installing the collection bag isn't as difficult as some say, especially if you use the built in clips on the housing that keep it in place while you attach the band clamp. After hearing me rave about it, my Dad is buying one for his shop. I bought two extra collection bags which you can find on the manufacturer's website by searching for the part number of the bag which is listed in the instruction manual. Bottom line up front, this machine exceeded my expectations, has plenty of power and there's nothing I'd change about it.

The Wen Dust Collector is an excellent dust collector for the small shop. I do custom cabinets and furniture from a single car garage so space is a premium. The large 2 HP motor moves a ton of air and has a lot of suction. My previous dust collection set up was not adequate and this is a huge upgrade in terms of capacity, dust removal, and convenience. I gave this a 4/5 because there are some things I would like to improve. First, the castor wheels are not adequate to support the weight of the motor and continually lock up on me. They have marked up my shop floor, which isn't a huge concern, it just shows how little they work. Second, I think the cord is too short. I made a ten foot cord to replace the shorter cord that comes with the dust collector. Replacing the cord is fairly easy. The box unscrews and the new cord is connected with electrical clips. Third, the clip location that is designed to hold the collection bag while you clamp it in place does not work well because they are placed above where the support poles. Fourth, I think that the dual 4" inlet should be upgraded because it is held in place by a single set screw and doesn't have a gasket. After several months of use, the dust connector grenaded. The turbine assembly came into contact with the metal dust inlet cover. After some trouble shooting, it turned out that the turbine assembly had slide forward by a half an inch on the motor shaft (I originally thought the dust inlet cover had caved in). It turns out my dust collector was missing two parts; a large metal washer and a left thread machine screw that threads into the motor shaft, holding the turbine assembly in place (its a left threaded screw so that it tightens itself as the turbine spins). I called WEN customer service multiple times while trouble shooting and once we found the solution, they promptly mailed me the missing parts, which were missing from the beginning as this is a part of the machine I did not assemble when it was delivered. WEN customer service was excellent to work with and very courteous, one of the best customer service experiences I have had. I would have given this a 3/5 but their customer service was so good, I kept with the 4/5 rating. Overall I am very pleased with this machine, with the giant motor, and the capacity. This does require a 20 amp outlet and I recommend that it be on its own dedicated breaker. If this is your first dust collector, plan to spend at least $100 to get it set up with dedicated lines, blast gates, and electrical. Dust collection is a must in a small shop for convenience and safety. This dust collector fulfills both of these needs very well.

This dust collector really can pull a lot of air efficiently. It comes with a paired Y inlet to allow the option of semi-permanent installation and hookup to multiple saw and/or sanding stations. It does not come with any adapters to reduce hose size nor accessories like blast gates. Assembly instructions are a little inaccurate but can be figured out. The main consideration for use is that it has a NEMA 5-20R plug (one of the vertical prongs is horizontal) which requires a 20A outlet. You can purchase plug adapters or utilize a dedicated circuit if need be. My main complaint though is limited mobility of the unit. It has four small casters that are all freely mobile; this means they can spin contrary to one another making movement in small spaces difficult. Overall a minor complaint though. Otherwise it does its job well.

1500 CFM 5-Micron Dust Collector, 16 amps motor, 2 hoses with 4 in. inlets for connections to multiple tools at once. 4 swivel casters mobile base for easy storing and moving around. Collection bag holds up to 50 Gal., with quick-release clasp for simple bag installation. Compatible with 4 in. Dust Hose and backed by a 2-year warranty, NOTE: requires a NEMA 5-20R 20 Amp outlet. We replacing a 435 CFM collector and one can only say, what a difference in suction and is twice as quite. The two hose connection is great for our Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw and the main use as we can now connect a hose to the dust tube on the saw and the second on the plate. This always required a collector and shop vac, now it's one unit with three times the suction and a near dustless operation. I already had a double NEMA 5-20R 20 AMP outlets with a shop safety shut-off. So with two 20 amps breakers in the panel directly to the safety shut-off with both currents having a fuses down to the outlets. The signal lever shut-off kills power to both outlets and all equipment connected. NOTE:: One should always check local code for wiring 20 amp outlets and use a electrician where needed.

This 1500 CFM 16 Amp 5-Micron Woodworking Dust Collector with 50 Gal. Collection Bag and Mobile Base by Wen is one sweet little machine. I am very impressed with it. The motor puts out 16 amps of power which creates 1,500 cu. ft. per minute of high velocity circulation. When running wood through my planer the only wood chips that are left is just a few the exhaust fan on my DeWalt planer didn't get.. The performance of this Wen dust collector is just flat out awesome!! The dust collection bag will hold up to 50 gallons of dust and chips. The bag is released for emptying with one flick of a lever on a steel band that holds it in place. The bag is clear so it's easy to know when it needs to be emptied. It has two 4" air inlets so you can connect several shop tools. Putting the Wen together is very simple and took me less than an hour from opening the box to plugging it in. It does requires a NEMA 5-20R 20 Amp outlet which is available Home Depot or any electrical or hardware store. I only gave it 4 stars and because of the casters. They are a little to weak for the weight of the collector. When I go to move it I have to lift up on the motor end to get it move. But other then that this is a really, really nice tool to have in my shop.

Great product! Please note that the start up of the unit pulls about 25 amps, you may blow a breaker if it is plugged into a normal 15 amp breaker.
