Q:Are there other suppliers that make blades for this? I can only see the WEN brand blade here at Homedepot.com and the one that came with this saw broke on day two. Not very reassuring. I am an experienced metal worker so I was using the saw correctly.

Q:what causes 5 inch metal band saw to cut wavey, does not cut straight.

Answer This Question

A:  Applying too much pressure while cutting would be my guess. The slower you go applying light pressure letting the saw do the work is ideal.

Q:Ever since I replaced the blade with a starret blade it hops on each revolution. Its driving me nuts. Also my blade will frequently jump the wheels. Need help re-aligning this machine. Thanks

    Answer This Question

A:  Check the tension and check the weld on the blade. These are quirky little beasts and don't force it into the material, let it do the work.

Over 100 cuts and still going. The vice is better that similar saws. Decently clean and accurate cuts. Was able to cut 6"x1/2" plate. The base can flex if a piece is heavy, but it is more solid than other bases I have looked at. Works great for a smaller portable metal band saw. Worth the money.

I like that it feels and works like a quality saw for the money. I really needed the mitering ability and the compact size. I've worked in wood/metal and body shops and I'm a process engineer. I know the importance of buying a tool that fits the job and budget and this saw fits just that. I build custom furniture. Steel framed tables mostly. Square mild steel tubing usually under 4". This saw is the safest, fastest and most productive option I could think of. Sure I could buy a bigger production saw but it would cost double and take up valuable floor space. I've been using the saw for three weeks now and built three tables(about 15-20 cuts per table) it has worked flawlessly. If have given 5 stars but the first saw I received did not work. I called WEN and they were very helpful and addressed my problem immediately. They said I could have a part shipped if I could identify what it was. I pulled it apart to access the issue and see if a small part could be sent instead of entire saw. The transmission was connected to the moter without aligning one of the bearings. In the end I decided on just having them ship a new saw which arrived within days. Quality control is always a concern in a factory. My thoughts are this. It's a good solid quality tool, there can always be a lemon, but since WEN did the best possible service I could have expected I will continue to buy some of their products. I plan on buying a wood band saw and a drill press in the near future.

      Cheaply Made Electronics
Unit electronics burned out after less than 50 cuts. Unfortunately it was just outside of the 2 year warranty.

Very little assembly required. The saw works as expected without any issues. I am very pleased with the saw.

It's a little tight to press down and you have to judge how much pressure to apply. If you let the saw do the work for the most part I'm getting accurate cuts on plate steel within a 1/16th of an inch which I'd say it pretty good considering what I paid for it.

Its okay for what you pay for it, but its not for someone who's just a little bit above average use of this type of saw. Pivit joints will wear out soon. The table is stamped steel instead of cast aluminum. Before I got started with it, I could yell it just wouldn't be enough for my needs. A minimal hobbyist could be ok but thats it in my opinion. Home Depot was great both ends of the sale and return. Sorry it didn't work out.
