You want to use a hand sander to sand hardwood floor?!? Sounds tedious, but sure if that's your cup of tea, drink up and enjoy! Personally, I would rent a floor sander from Home Depot... Unless you're talking just a small area?

Is this product made in China?

Yes, it is. Wen tools are basically rebadged made in China power tools that come from the same factory as some other name brands at the same price range.

Can you use this to rough up an epoxy floor coating on cement floor, basically to get rid of bubb...

Yes, but it's slow going and not made to bear down with. It's a light duty tool so you have to know it will take awhile and the epoxy will probably fill the paper so you'll need a few belts.

Is the dust bag connection really square???

It's more like a rounded-off rectangle ~2.5"x.75".

Would this be the appropriate sander for taking off multiple layers of old varnish and stain from a large desk?

Absolutely...I used it to spot sand Hardwoods prior to staining and refinishing...~20'x12' overall. Had to change the sanding belt once but you probably won't have to. Great sander for the price and it seems pretty hearty.

Would this be suitable to re-finish some old 70s wooden kitchen cabinets with peeling varnish?

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
This WEN sander is a great option if you need a belt sander for just a few projects, and aren't planning on using it on a daily basis. The fixed speed 7A motor is powerful enough that it doesn't bog down significantly, and the 820 ft/min sanding rate removes material fairly quickly. The tracking knob is really easy to use, and the tool free belt change lever is really convenient. It's almost no effort at all to remove an old belt and slap a new one on. The sander form factor is pretty typical for belt sanders, but the chassis looks to be primarily plastic, although the drive sprockets and components are metal. The contact plate on the bottom is a little smaller than other similar models, and there's also quite a gap between the front and back rollers and the contact plate, so it takes a bit of forward pressure to get the nose of the sander to remove material. The sander can do a fairly good job of getting into corners though, since the right side is flush with the edge of the sanding belt, and the front end roller sticks out as far as the edge of the cover. Dust collection is passable, with between 50-75% collected on the test runs that I did. However, the big detractor is that the sander can't be connected to a shop vac for better dust collection. The dust port is an odd rounded rectangular opening, which would require a custom adapter or liberal use of duct tape to attach a vacuum to. Despite a few minor complaints, this sander is a great value for its price point - coming in well below the cost of the other competition I researched.

(What's this)
The WEN 7-Amp 3 in. x 21 in. Corded Belt Sander with Dust Bag performed well during my project. The motor produced plenty of power and the included belt produced good results. While the included dust bag did capture some dust, I found much more dust on the surrounding table surface and all over the tool. The dust port is a unique shape so you cannot attach round dust collection hoses to this product. The tool less belt change mechanism is awesome. A simple lever loosens up the assembly and the belt slides right out. The drive wheel has directional arrows on it so it is easy to figure out which way to install the new belt. The adjuster mechanism for the belt is sensitive but works great. Once a belt is installed you need to run the sander and make sure the belt tracks straight. If it starts moving to one side or the other you turn the adjustment mechanism until the belt is in the right location and does not drift. I found very small adjustments were required or the belt would drift the opposite direction.

This is my second WEN 3x31 belt sander. The first one lasted 18 months before I caused it to break. This one seems pretty good so far but the tension know seems very loose. I will follow up later to see how long it lasts
