Questions & Answers

How do I keep the heater on longer ? It keeps shutting off

Asked by: Kee
This heater has 2 heat settings, 900 and 1500 watts. This might seem weird, but I have one, have had it for years and here's how to keep it on longer. If you are in a small room, and keep the thermostat up all the way, the fan heats up the room quickly, samples the temperature in the room, says "good enough" and shuts down . . the heating and air conditioning folks call this short cycling . . believe it or not, if you switch to the LOW setting from the HIGH setting, and then leave the thermostat all the way up, it'll take longer to heat up the room, but all the time it is running, it's pulling in the coldest air in the room, near the floor, and warming it up . . cold feet feeels like a cold room . . try it and see, some times opening up the door to the room a little bit, letting a LITTLE hot air out at the top of the door, makes the heater stay on longer and pull more of the coldest air near on the floor past it's heating element, warming those tootsies up longer . . former electrician, and person with chilly feet . . .

What is the Temperature range of the thermostat on this heater?

What is the temperature range? I want this to protect pipes in a small house. Would like to set temperature @ 45-50 degrees and place the heater/s near water pipes in bathroom and kitchen.
Asked by: Joestrib
It runs up to about 85 degrees before it'll shut off, BUT if there is too much cold air in the room, it'll never shut off. lowest temp from the thermostat is below 45, because we use one of these in our shop bathroom, kept at a not so roasty-toasty 40 degrees.

1,500-Watt Electric Fan Portable Heater is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 262.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best heater I've ever had This is a great heater. Of the approximately 10 fan-forced heaters that I have used over the past few years, most have had at least one major flaw, whereas this heater’s only issues are quite minor for my purposes. Safety: this heater has enough safety features to make it perfectly usable, but lacks some features that other heaters have. For example, it doesn’t have tip-over protection. Some heaters have a switch on the bottom of the unit that turns it off when it is lifted or tipped over; this unit doesn’t have that. In my case that doesn’t really matter because with all my space heaters I screw a 1’x1’ piece of plywood to the bottom of the unit to make it very unlikely to tip over, even on an uneven surface. This piece of plywood also makes it easy to push around on carpet. I looked inside this heater and confirmed that it does have an over-temperature shut-off breaker, as advertised. Some other space heaters also have a thermal shut-off fuse, in addition to the breaker, but I did not see one on this unit. The user-controllable thermostat would likely also act as a over-temperature shut-off mechanism, but I haven’t tested that. Temperature settings and controls: I am very happy with the temperature settings on this heater. It has two heat settings and I find them to be quite comfortable. The high setting isn’t overwhelmingly hot thanks to this heater being a mid-sized unit. I have tried some heaters of equal wattage that had much smaller front grills. Because it is equal wattage, it puts out the same amount of heat, but by concentrating it into a smaller grill, the air temperature gets uncomfortably high: with those heaters, I had to sit back at least 2’ to be comfortable. Also, thanks to this heater being made of plastic, none of its surfaces get too hot to touch. I have tried some heaters that have metal front grills, which I find to be a big problem because the metal gets hot enough to cause minor burns. The low heat setting on this unit is also quite nice. On some heaters the low setting is so low that the air coming out is a bit too cool, but that is not the case with this one. I was initially hesitant to buy this heater because I wanted 3 heat settings (like on some other models), but I have come to find that because the two settings that it has are both very comfortable, 2 is enough. The thermostat is a very nice feature to have and it works well and predictably. All the controls on the unit feel solid and smooth. Noise: this heater is nicely quiet. It’s definitely not silent, but it’s one of the quietest fan-forced heaters of this size that I have ever had. I’m really sensitive to noise, yet I find this heater to be good. The noise that it does make it quite pleasant: just a simple white-noise-like sound, without any noticeable hums, buzzes, rattles, or other weird/annoying noises. Overall build and looks: this heater is well-built and feels solid. I can see it lasting many years with rough use, and decades with gentle use. I find that it looks quite good. It’s not too plain-looking, but also not too weird-looking that it doesn’t fit in with other furniture. My one complaint about its construction is that it doesn’t have a handle or any good spot to grip it. It’s light enough that this isn’t too much of a problem, but because I screw on a 1’x1’ piece of plywood to its bottom to give it stability from tipping over, the extra weight of the plywood makes me really want a handle. Conclusion: this is a great heater at a good price, and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a fan-forced heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value I own three of these fans. The first one I bought was whisper quiet, which impressed me greatly. The other two are a little louder, making an audible but not obtrusive hum expected as normal for an electric motor. I never use the thermostat control, preferring to simply turn it on to its always on, low temperature setting. It will heat up a 10x12 room quickly. One thing to consider is its stability. Its base is quite small, and the unit is light. I find it necessary to pay attention to the 6 FT power cord because it has a lot of coiled tension in it and can knock the unit off its base if the tension is not released. 1500 Watts. Be sure to read the manual!

My office is freezing (summer and winter). I put this on maximum settings and it warms my feet under my cubicle and then I put it on my lap for additional heat. Once in awhile it turns itself off. Solution is to maybe unplug it for a few minutes and then it should start up again when you put on Maximum again. It is basically a small heater for one person for a small area. People walking by can definitely feel the difference as they pass your desk.

Really love this little heater. Great for my cold feet in the winter time as I work at a desk at home all day. Actually have to turn it off intermittently because it does get warm. It's a good quality product. Can't beat the low price either.

It's very lightweight and has a long enough cord to move around as needed. The power output was slightly below the rated wattage, but still did what I needed it to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well As with any heater, it can only produce as much heat as the electricity it uses, so it's not cheap to run -- on low it's about 10 cents an hour at my rates. Settings are fan-only (17 Watts), low heat (845 Watts), high heat (1333 Watts). Those are my measurements. Thermostat will cycle the fan+heat on and off depending on temperature, which is a nice feature, although a little distracting for sleeping. Knobs are on the top -- easy to reach if it is under a desk (where I keep it). I wish it had a timer in case I leave it on when I leave the room, but at $15 you can't have everything. This is a good heater at a great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Fabulous heater. I picked this heater up last night and was scared to plug it into my cubicle at work after reading 1 review that 'it was loud and drove his coworkers crazy'. Whoever, posted that comment must have a defective heater because it's not loud. My coworkers in the cubicles next to me say they can't hear it. Very quiet heater and works very well! I placed it under my desk and I'm in heaven as instantly warmed my cubicle and no longer have to freeze at work. No complicated switches, stylish, and very easy to use. Two switches; one to turn on for automatic temperature control and one for low, high, or fan without heat. Great buy for a low price and wish I had picked this portable heater up sooner.
