The clothes and towels dry perfectly well in ours. Yes, the drying time is much longer for a load. Ours takes 1.5 hours to dry a full load. The amount of lint is less per load, and the energy consumption is well less since this uses air-source heat pump instead of high current resistance coils to heat. Slower? Yes. We don’t stand at the dryer awaiting completion - too many other things to do. Six months in, we really like this machine.

Can you also use use this with a vent instead of ventless? I’m going to have to return it if not, the clothes don’t dry.

This dryer model is designed solely for ventless drying. It has no vent connection nor capability for venting. It’s operation depends upon cycling the air through the integral heat pump and the drum. It dries our clothes and towels well every time.

Yes, the machine is 24” wide. Products availability is affected by a lot of factors. The prevalent factor is manufacturer production and distribution. Too, this compact washer isn’t as popular in America as in other countries.

The water from the clothes drying is collected at the heat pump’s cooling coil and pumped out of the machine through a ribbed vinyl hose to the included water reservoir. The owner may instead connect the vinyl hose to a drain. The amount of water varies by the load size and type of fabrics. Ours varies between 4 and 8 cups of water per load. We empty the removable reservoir after every load.

Good question Emily. The model and serial number tag is located within the dryer where the door and the dryer meet.

No steam option available on ours, and one water drain hose. No use for Y (wye) purchase for dryer. The wye is useful for the washer - the washer has only one inlet connection. With a wye we can selectively add warm water to wash cycle by opening the faucet on the wall.

Exceptional dryer!
Customer review from whirlpool.com logo
This is an AMAZING dryer. Probably the best I’ve ever used. My husband & I live in a mobile home so our main reason for purchase is the fact it is VENTLESS & it’s compact. The dryer is so quiet. You can hardly hear it with a tv going. It doesn’t take any more time to dry than another modern dryer. The end result are damp clothes, however there is enough steam and heat left in the bin at the end of the cycle to where if you fluff the clothes they’ll be dry in a matter of seconds. The dryer acts as a dehumidifier by capturing moisture from the air it uses. All the features are up to date and easy to figure out. It’s worked extremely well since we’ve had it and I’m happy to say we LOVE IT!

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
My wife and I run a small property rehab business in western Pennsylvania. We buy, rent, renovate, and sell homes. I am the PA-registered contractor of our outfit and head up our small work crew. We have quite a bit of experience in renovating single and multi-family homes, from low-budget spec rehabs to full luxury overhauls. The pictures of this dryer published here show it set up in the basement of a 3500-square foot top-and-bottom duplex, far from its natural habitat. I eventually plan to install this dryer on the second floor unit of the duplex, along with the compact washer, but the existing very basic drainage system will need serious renovation and the electricity will need to be revamped to get up to code, so the dryer and its companion washer are in the existing basement storage and laundry areas for now. The only reason moving the dryer upstairs to a location with no vent is going to be possible at all is that this dryer has a heat pump. Heat pump dryer technology only became available in the USA since 2014-2015. The standard American dryer takes in air from its surroundings, heats it up, passes it through tumbling clothes, and expels it and the moisture that the air collects out a vent. What a dryer with a heat pump does is redirect the air after it passes through the clothes through a condenser, where the moisture from the air is removed. The heat pump then pumps the already hot, newly dry air back into the dryer for another go-round, and another, and another, etc. The condensed water is collected in a container which you physically remove from the dryer and empty after each use. So in essence, a dryer without a heat pump sucks in a very significant amount of air to dry clothes and shoots that hot, wet air just outside your home, but a dryer with a heat pump sucks in a much smaller amount of air and uses it to dry clothes by drying that air and reusing it again and again. If you pay the energy bills in your household, the wheels upstairs are probably already spinning with the possibilities. An electric dryer equipped with a heat pump automatically creates a significant, multifaceted reduction in your power and heating bills. All the energy spent heating air that is simply expelled through a vent in a regular dryer is carefully saved through the work of the heat pump. The dryer works much better in close proximity to your living areas because the expensive, carefully conditioned air in your home that a regular dryer would suck in to simply expel outdoors doesn’t leave your home in the first place. You can even reuse the leftover gray water. If you run an air purifier, a humidifier, or of course a dehumidifier in your home, this will also save on the workload of those small appliances. There’s simply less air exchange going on with one of these versus a regular dryer. As far as drying cycles go and the operation of the dryer, this certainly has a more advanced digital system than anything I’ve seen, and more options than any other dryer I’ve ever tested. A word to the wise -- there’s a handy reference sheet that comes with the dryer that you should put on the wall until you become very familiar with what this thing can do. The controls of this dryer are intuitive and relatively simple to understand, but its capabilities are extensive. If space is at a premium in your laundry area, you can stack this dryer over the washer with an additional stack kit. If not, there are twelve-inch storage pedestals that make the washer and dryer more accessible. There are specifications included with the instructions for setting up an under-counter installation. This thing will fit anywhere in your home your electrician can run a 30-amp circuit to. All in all, this is the most advanced compact dryer I’ve ever worked with. There isn’t a single drawback to this machine versus others of its type that I’ve seen and tested that I can think of. Fantastic job, Whirlpool. You done great.

Faulty Filter! Needs Part No. W11382898 To Work!
Customer review from whirlpool.com logo
Unit comes with a faulty lower lint filter housing. The design is ventless, but this requires 2 lint filters. If the bottom filter fails, then the coils in the heat pump get clogged and the unit overheats, either burning out the high-temp fuse or destroying the main circuit control motherboard. The unit ships with the noted faulty lower filter housing and this housing ALLOWS lint into the heat pump coils. If you buy this unit, make sure to also purchase a replacement filter housing, part No. W11382898 because this replacement filter housing is an entirely different design that holds the foam filter media static in place, as compared to the design of the lower filter that comes with the unit. The filer housing that comes with the unit allows the foam filter media to flap or bend in the movement of air through the dryer. IT IS NOT PROPERLY DESIGNED AND IS NOT FIT FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. IT LETS LINT BYPASS THE FOAM FILTER MEDIA AND THIS LINT CLOGS THE HEAT PUMP'S COILS, CAUSING THE UNIT TO ASSUREDLY FAIL. I'm giving it 3 stars based on the horrible filter housing that comes with it. Whirlpool should NOT ship these units with the faulty lower filter housing units, and should only ship them with filter housing unit W11382989. They'd save their customers lots of frustration and themselves a bunch of money on warranty repairs. If the unit came with the well-designed filter housing I'd give it four or five stars. Energy efficiency is important!!

The bottom filter on the ventless dryer is very flawed. It doesn’t trap the lint well, so the metal heat element behind the filter gets clogged and is impossible to reach. I had serious concerns about a fire starting, so I wrote to Whirlpool...three times. Two of those times they didn't bother to respond. The time they did respond, they simply sent me a copy of the owner's manual, which I already had, and which didn't address my complaint. For the price of this machine one should get both excellent customer service and parts that work properly. Unfortunately, this dryer doesn't measure up, and the customer service is horrible.

It took many weeks to receive this backordered dryer. Now, this dryer has been installed for less than a year and it is already registering a fault. The troubleshooting manual explains that this failure code probably means a component has failed. This is a secondary stackable unit in a closet and I never do heavy duty laundry in it, and still it failed. Very disappointed.

It takes 5-10 minutes to clear Filter Indicator Light after cleaning; dryer won't start without it. "Extra Dry" option can't be selected. "Save Time" & "Gentle" options can't be selected. You don't have tech support besides having Technician coming to the home. Still experimenting with settings to get best dry time for various loads. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
