Questions & Answers

Can this product be used on a wood girder beam in the crawl space of a pier and beam home?
ByJan 13, 2025

Answer This Question

Happy to help, Donald! Rust-Oleum Wolman Copper Coat Wood Preservative is suitable for exterior use only. The product will not properly cure and can cause lingering odors if used in interior or enclosed spaces. If the crawl space is enclosed, we do not recommend this product for use on any beams inside of it. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Can this be used for interior wood as long as it is allowed to properly dry first? Also, how long does it take for end cuts to fully dry? Thanks in advance.

I applied latex solid stain over this coppercoat, after 3 days of baking sun. It was sanded cedar siding. Will I see any issues with this? The coppercoat seems completely dry.

        Answer This Question

Happy to clear things up, Dean! Rust-Oleum Woodlife CopperCoat Wood Preservative can be topcoated with an oil-based solid stain after 24 hours; the surface would need to weather for at least 30 days before being compatible with a water-based solid stain. The latex stain may not properly adhere if applied too soon. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

          Answer This Question

Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Wolman Woodlife CopperCoat Wood Preservative can be used on untreated or pressure-treated wood in below ground, ground contact, fresh water contact or above ground installations. Either product could be used on retaining walls, but CreoCoat will have a more pigmented black finish.

Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say that the CopperCoat wood preservative is easy to apply and provides good coverage, making it a reliable choice for protecting wood from rot and insect damage. Many appreciate its effectiveness, especially for outdoor applications, although the strong odor and the need for proper safety precautions are common points of concern. While some users express uncertainty about long-term performance, the overall sentiment is positive, with many planning to repurchase for future projects.

                  copper coat 2023
June 20, 2023. We ordered the 6 pack online and it was shipped to the store for pickup within a few days. We coated 56 agricultural treated posts between 4 and 6 inch diameter. We coated 42 inches on the end going into the ground and 12 H braces since we had plenty of coating. We used gloves and a brush to apply outside. Time will tell, but we figured $100 is a good investment for our fence project.

                    Terrible color
Put on bottom of split rail fence post. I was under impression that it would be a faint color and would fade. It’s been 9 months and still looks terrible. It’s an ugly black against the natural cedar color. Am I supposed to paint the split rail? Ridiculous!

This stuff is potent! The case I received of four one gallon cans came with a convenient pourable spout mounted to the lid. While pouring out of a full can the flimsy bottom of the can "oil canned" causing a belch of the fluid all over my hand. Rinsed with water as directed but my finger tips were numbed for hours and my hand stunk. Wear chemical resistant gloves and eye protection when using this product. I think the bugs and rot spores are going to get a little numb as well if they get close to CopperCoat

                      Great product
I was able to use this product to coat/protect the bottom of my fence posts and it worked great. I used the dip method and thought it worked much better than painting it on. Highly recommend but use precaution when handling the product.

A longer life for exterior wood.
This product is one of the best wood preservatives I have ever used. I highly recommend Woodlife® for all applications where the wood may come in contact with the Earth. Unfortunately, you will have to order online as it is not a stock item and your local Home Depot. Where I want the project to look aged I mix 50/50 Woodlife® and black latex paint. When dry it will provide a weathered gray appearance and greatly extent the life of the wood. I have also done the same using red latex to offer a weathered redwood aspect. Application is easy using a brush, roller, airless spray or dip. Regardless I highly suggest that you use latex or rubber gloves. Cleanup is a breeze using soap and water.

Great for fence posts and wood fences.
I used to use old fir logs for fence posts untreated for a quick fence but after awhile they rotted at ground level. but I put up a fence around my garden using 7 foot lengths of Doug fir for post and braces and soaked in this stuff they not only look good and rustic but they're still holding up strong even the partly rotted brace. It's good stuff, but the smell stays with you awhile. I'd suggest wearing gloves and coveralls when using it.
