Can you attach a heavyweight plastic bag to the machine without it creating a mess?

Asked by Preacher December 29, 2017

Answers

Yep. As long as the bag opening is larger than the waste chute. Curl the bag over the bottom of the frame and put the mulcher over it.

How complex is it to change the replacement nylon cutter string?

Asked by DT May 16, 2018

Answers

You can swap them by hand in under a minute with no tools. Pop the funnel off so you can see what you're doing. There are two 13", .09" dia. weed-eater strings laced through the hub. Look carefully and note how each string is threaded through. Push the worn ends of one string through the larger hole to enlarge the loops. Pull the old string out and lace the new on in the same way. Line up the ends to be the same length, then pull it tight. Then replace the string on the other side.

Will it handle the vines from the squash and sweet potatoe plants in my garden?

I would avoid putting vines in the shredder. In fact I avoid putting any sticks or twigs in the shredder.... only leaves.

I have pampas grass I need to cut down each spring. Will this unit shred it?

Asked by Jim February 6, 2018

Answers

Have not used it on pampas grass (only leaves) - the "reed" sections may be too hearty. If you can cut it down with a regular string weed eater, the mulcher should work on it.

Will it shred WET leaves

It will, but they will build up in the shred chamber and you'll be stopping every few minutes to scrape down the inside and open the outlet holes.

Same as a weed eater - I think .080 is the largest you can use. Check your product papers maximum size.

If uses a .090 trimmer line. I have not been able to find the .090 bulk line, and have a tough time threading .095 line.

Will this work for piles of long pine needles?

I had no problem shredding line needles with the Worx shredder. I did spread them out and feed them slowly, rather than just dumping them all in at once.

Worx great!!!
Customer review from worx.com logo
I bought this a few months ago and really love the product. I have two complaints. One, you go through the plastic strips like butter and the base the unit sits on is two small to get anything under it. I remedied the second complaint by using a sturdy garbage can and cutting a hole in the lid to accommodate the unit. See attached. It now has a sturdier base and holds more.

Where has this been all my life. I love my Worx!
Customer review from worx.com logo
I love to garden and I love the Worx Leaf Mulcher! I have mulched over 400 CUBIC feet of mulched leaves this fall destined to become # 1 potting soil in a year or so. Presently about 200 cubic feet of mulched leaves are being used to bed my strawberry plants for this winter. I have also put a 3-4 inch cover of mulched leaves on my raised vegetable beds, to get a head start for the 2018 gardening season. The mums, and hydrangea beds are also covered in a layer of leaf mulch to protect them from Kentucky's unpredictable winters. The economical Worx Leaf Mulcher works, just don't feed too many wet leaves in at a time and cull the sticks and branches out to lengthen the time between replacing the cutting strings. Remember to use eye protection. A great Idea who's time has come! Thanks Worx!!

This crunches leaves well.
Customer review from worx.com logo
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the leaf mulcher for the first time last weekend. I liked that the leaves and small twigs would get shredded and compressed down 11:1. At first it seemed to work very well, but after the 3rd or 4th bag, the mulching slowed down considerably. Shaking the unit helped the mulcher to shred. I recognized that the cutting performance highly depended on the length of the cutting lines. I used the spare cutting lines from the package and used a spool I had for my weed wacker. I also removed the small black cutting line trimmer that seemed to block leaves and and unnecessarily trim the cutting line. The lines wore out and got shorter about every 6 bags. We ran this machine for 4 hours and filled up 75 bags of shredded leaves. I recommend this machine with a few recommendations: 1. Keep an eye on the cutting strings. Replace when mulching slows down. 2. Buy a thicker cutting string. 3. Remove big twigs or pieces of bark that clogs and quickly wears out the cutting line. 4. Use full size clear big bags. You can see when its full and you can change bags less often. If you use small bags, it will slide off the metal frame and blow leaves out. 5. Remove small metal cutting string trimmer. 6. Wear a face mask and eye protection. At first we had to use the short white pedestal because our bags were to short and would fall off the frame (see picture). It got easier when we upgraded to the bigger clear plastic bags.

LEAF BLENDER ! Okay, I was cynical about this product before I bought it... but it does the job! You do have to take some of the claims about the compaction ratio with a grain of salt.... it depends on how you pack your leaves by hand. If you just loaded bags with no compaction at all, yes you can probably get close to the 11:1 bag ratio. But if you really worked at compacting your leaves by hand, your ratio may come in at more like 5:1 or 3:1. Still, that is pretty awesome. I shredded my entire yard which could take 8-9 bags before into 2.5 bags with the shredder. Minus 1 star - it does not play well with the compostable paper bags. I ended up with a pretty much destroyed paper bag and a mess on the ground. A plastic bag would probably work better, but I did not try that.... instead I got my sewing machine out and made a reusable cloth "catcher" bag that works great (picture). When the bag is full I flip it upside down into the paper bag and just empty the contents. I will probably try to find some steel fishing leader to replace the plastic "strings".

Works nicely and really do the Job..
Customer review from worx.com logo
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really have a lot of problem with leaves , my neighbor have a lot of tree and I have a big piece of garden. The electric leaf help me to save money with plastic bags since every time I collect the leaves I filled up 06 to 07 big plastic bags... it no longer happen, now everything is in one bag.. so that leaf also save me money with fertilizer since I no longer buy that much with the amount of fertilizer that I produce with the electric leaf.. And most import help to save the environment.. In the end the electric leaf pays for itself.. Worth the money

This arrived on time, easy to put together and get started. It is fantastic with dry leaves but like others said doesn't do as well with wet leaves. It worked, just can't put many in at a time. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. Good little machine for the price.

It's like a huge garbage disposal! Grinds up the leaves really fast. Try to keep any sticks out as they tend to break the shredder lines. Easy to replace, though.
