Questions & Answers

What prevents someone from flipping the faceplate down and cutting the cable?

Asked by Gwen April 2, 2021

Only one that do that is, one who has the combo!

The lever is stuck and cant move to reset number and dont remember the code I put in need help

Asked by Marcy November 5, 2020

I would suggest that you get some WD40 lubricant in a spray can and spray the lock or the actual numbers several times over a 2 hour period and the numbers should again roll free. This is something you should do at least once a year to keep the lock working smoothly. WD 40 cans are sold at or local Home Depot store.

Can it be left unlocked? (Like if you are not home but want the lawn guy to be able to enter)

Asked by Chioma July 21, 2020

Yes, it can be left unlocked . There's a difference between being locked and latched Therefore it can be unlocked but still latched If you need the ability they just open the gate freely (so a toddler can simply push door open or you're carrying groceries) you'd have to get a separate piece, a 'hook' to hold the door open.

Hi, Can we find this or have this deliver in Canada ?? Thank you

Asked by Helo July 7, 2020

Home Depot should be able to ship it to you. This is a question should be able to answer when you place the order.

How do I get a new cable?

Asked by Kathy April 22, 2020

If you're really handy, I suppose you could snip the old wire, replace it with a new one and add wire clamps

Can the keypad be mounted on the interior to defer elderly from opening

Asked by Floridacaregiver September 28, 2019

Yes, of course but the gate hinge would have to be changed or modified to swing out.

How does this perform in cold weather? Some locks freeze and become inoperable during the winter...

Asked by ByTheBay June 9, 2019

I have two locks installed outside in Cleveland, OH. If the front slide which protects the rotating numbers is not closed, there is a chance of freezing especially when rain turns to snow. I spay numbers with WD 40 before the snow flies and it helps. Never froze up for extended time, breathing on it usually thaws it out.

Can you lock from the inside

Asked by Sasha May 14, 2019

Not that I know of. The combination is on the outside Therefor I don't see how it's possible to lock from the inside

When I leave the correct combination number on,I can open and close gate freely BUT case will open up. Is this normal?

Asked by Thi May 6, 2019

Yes.... that is how this items works. Opening the case opens the door.

How is this installed?

Asked by Patricia April 9, 2019

There are instructions that come with it. Fairly easy to understand. There are wires that have to be tight in order for this to work so read instructions twice, follow them and make sure they’re tight. There’s also a video on YouTube you can watch that’s helpful.

I just installed this product last week. Really like it. Had a hard time because my fence doesnt match up to my post quite right (2x4 added) so sort of had to reverse install this. Also gate swings out which was a little challenging. Really cool though. Easy install after i figured it out. Also installed it in an outdoor outlet box.

It was easy to install and was working perfectly for a few months. Then the screws in the box which used fix the metal wire is getting loose and door not able to open by pooling the box. The design is too fragile. I wish they use bigger screws or some other ways to tighten the wire.

Great gate locks
Purchased two of these for the gates on both sides of my house. They are heavier than I had anticipated and should hold up well in weather. Installed using instructions. Installation process is relatively easy with the proper tools and when following the included instructions. I took the advice I found in a review and installed the gate locks in external, heavy duty, weatherproof 1 gang receptacle outlet covers to protect them from rain and help them last longer. (see pics). Everything worked as per instructions. Changed the codes from their default and I am good to go.

Great solution for the yard
I was looking for a lock for my yard gate so that it will be easy for my gardeners to enter and for us to use painlessly from inside and outside. Most of the locks for the yard cannot be opened from inside if it is locked from the outside. A combination lock like this was the ideal solution. And unlike someone complained that it can be only used on a gate which opens inside, it can be easily used on a gate which opens outside as long as the gate has a frame and the lock is attached to the gate frame instead of the post. Although the quality of manufacturing and the build of the lock is excellent (it is fully metal body), I found two main issues - one with the instruction about angling the hole in the post to make it centered on the outside. I found that making the hole at an angle makes the locking mechanism to tilt badly to one side and get jammed. It works best if the hole through the post is at right angle and the locking lever moves straight. For me once I made the hole at angle, I had to enlarge the hole in a conical shape to avoid getting the locking lever getting stuck. The other problem is that the hole in the screw posts which holds the metal wire for opening is too small. It is like threading a needle where the thread is too thick to go through the needle eye. There is no reason to make the hole in the screw post so small as even with a wider hole the screw will hold the wire properly just like in any electrical connector. I had to strip of few threads from the wire to get the wire pass through the screw post hole. But after the installation was done properly, it worked great and has become very convenient - I do not have to make keys for the gardener, and if I change the gardener, I just have to change the lock combination - no need to change actual locks. Moreover, if I need to leave the house key for someone, I can use this as a lock box just for that purpose. But for installation issue I had to take out one star from the rating.

Yard Lock - keeping your side yard secured
The Yard Lock is a great way to secure your side gate without having to resort to padlocks, while still allowing you to have the convenience of opening the latch from both sides. The installation was very easy, but I did have to contact customer support - this product could have benefited greatly from more user input prior to production. There were a few issues: 1) The included mounting hardware was of poor quality and I understand it has since been replaced at the manufacturing level, however my unit was shipped with the old hardware. 2) The instructions do not represent the production changes made to improve the product - I had to call tech support because the design was different mounting the cable than what was described in the instructions. 3) The combination cover (see attached photo) usually hangs in the open position because the cover is plastic and is not secured properly to the body of the lock. The small tab on the cover is grossly inadequate to keep the cover secured 4) The latch hardware is "light weight" and the cable is crimped to the latch hardware in the package. Most people have an existing latch which fits your gate - this product would greatly benefit from having the capability to attach the cable to your existing gate latch. I had to modify the cable to attach to my existing heavy weight latch (see attached photo). This was an easy process but not something most people would be comfortable with or find the necessity to do.

Overall this is a good piece of equipment. It’s super easy to install, especially if you’re replacing gate hardware. The trapdoor is a little stiff to move up and down, especially on frosty mornings. You have to push the dials in as you turn them. They are also a little stiff, but I would rather it be more difficult to operate in the event someone who isn’t supposed to be on my property is trying to get in. Overall, I’m happy with this purchase. It’s only been one month of use, so I hope it holds up over time.
