Q:Can I use a sprayer
by|Sep 26, 2022

Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for reaching out, Terry. Zinsser Pool Paint cannot be spray applied. Apply Pool Paint with a 1/2” nap roller or heavy bristled brush, and work coating into all pores, filling any openings, pinholes, etc. Dries to touch in 4 to 6 hours. Apply a second coat (two coats are recommended) after 24 hours to ensure sufficient time to dry. Allow the coating to cure for 72 hours under good conditions before filling the pool. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

    Answer This Question

A:  No, you can't use this paint on a salt water pool.

    by|Feb 13, 2020

A:  Glad to help out, Steve! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Pool Paint is not recommended for salt or sea water filled pools as it will not be able to hold up well in that type of environment. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

        Answer This Question

A:  Glad to lend a hand, Lou. Rust-Oleum Zinsser Swimming Pool Paint should be applied with a 1/2-inch nap roller or heavy bristled brush so the paint can be worked into all the pores, filling any openings, pin holes, etc. For this reason, we don't recommend spraying the product. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

A:  I’m sure it could just need to clean the tip more often.

          by|Jun 2, 2019

A:  I would imagine that you could spray this. However we rolled and brushed ours. Had to do two coats for complete coverage.

A:  Not sure my guys used paint brushes and rollers to get it done. The consistency of the paint is similar to that of home use

                Answer This Question

A:  To be honest I am not sure. I applied it to my pool with a heavy knap roller and brush near the waterline tiles. It will fade however from the beginning of the season until the end. Chlorine respected the brightness of the blue.

A:  To ensure proper coverage with Rust-Oleum Zinsser Swimming Pool Paint, we recommend applying with a 1/2” nap roller or heavy bristled brush, and work coating into all pores, filling any openings, pin holes, etc. We do not recommend spraying this product on. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Perfect for concrete and gunite pools. I have been using for over 20 years. Switched to a rubber based paint 3 years ago. Big mistake! We had algae blooms 2 years in a row. We never had algae before. Its oil based therefore more difficult to clean up but the finish after 2 coats is beautiful

                    * Cost per sqft of coverage not very competitive * Poor durability * No flexibility I have used this paint two years in a row and do not recommend it. The cost of $25/gal appeared too attractive to pass, but in the long term it was not worth it. I have a 20x40 inground concrete pool with 10r old plaster finish that started discoloring and developing hairline cracks. Rather than re-plastering I was hoping to delay the spend by painting it. Upon opening the pool after the first winter with this paint I found cracks in the paint and discolorations that would not come off with acid or bleach treatment. Forget about touchups - the color faded after a year to a point where new paint was completely different shade from old surface. Decided to repaint it only to find out the same after the second winter. The paint comes on with a nice flat (anti-slip) finish and bright blue color. I am meticulous about surface prep and water chemistry so I had no problem with adhesion or chalking. But clearly the paint does not take the pool shell movements well and develops hairline cracks that collect debris and are visible through the water. Another observation is that the paint fades significantly, presumably from UV exposure. See photo of the one year top layer against sub-surface color after grinding it slightly. Clearly this is a one-season paint in my case, so unless you plan on repainting the pool every year, I don't recommend it. Another topic is coverage. It took about 8 gallons ($200) for 2 coats - the paint is very thick and goes on thick. This year I used acrylic paint with a hope that it will last longer than one season. The paint went on thinner with less than 6 gallons ($300) for 2 coats. The acrylic paint appears to be more flexible, too, although with more glossy / slippery finish. My expectation is that this paint will not crack and be less prone to discoloration.
