Yes. I wonder why you would want to though. If you are trying to lessen the roughness of the barnwood, it will help, but there are other coatings that are less expensive and easier to to use.

Yes, but brushing with a better natural fibre brush should be better to avoid bubbles that may dry into the coating. Shellac dries quickly. If you use a roller choose it wisely.

If the can is sealed good after use, I'd say years. I've never had the top "skim over" as traditional varnish would.

Is this the best product to use on furniture where drinks will be sitting? I am worried about getting water marks from the drink that sweats.

NO!!! . The solvent in shellac is alcohol. Placing drinks on a shellac surface is almost surely provide a uniform but unsightly circle. Shellac is not a good finish coat; its best application is in its use as a sealant. After drying it needs to be protected by a product such as polyurethane varnish.
