A: You would definitely want to use 2x4s for stability. They really don't cost much more, but are several times stronger.

A: you can use this as slats under the mattresses but i would go thicker on the pieces for the frame itself.

A: Unless it's painted or stained with an exterior coating, using this 1 x 2 isn't a good choice for a treehouse, unless it's used for walls and nothing load bearing.
Something a little thicker and substantial, as well as a lumber that is exterior-grade pressure treated would be a better choice.
This can include a 2" x 6" or wider for the frames and floors.
