Answer This Question
A: This item needs direct sunlight to heat it up for composting. You would not want it under a deck due to composting odors that can occur.

We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, You can place your compost bin in direct sunlight or in the shade, but putting it in the sun will hasten the composting process.

Answer This Question
A: Yes, pull it out through the bottom door and place it back through the top. Or get a tool that you can stick through the top and hand rotate it.

A: Compost rotation isn't required, but then the material that is ready to use will be on the bottom.

A: Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is, Thank you for your reaching out to us and we're sorry for the confusion about our composting guide. The compost rotation part is for the composter tumbler. There is no need to rotate if you have the 420L Compost Bin, just add fresh to the top and remove compost from the bottom when ready.

A: The bin sits on open ground. You should put it on dirt (not concrete). This type works well if you don't have rats who will dig to get into the bin.

A: Hi Jeannie,
I think there's a typo in the dimensions. It probably was supposed to say 55" deep instead of 5.5"
Good luck gardening...

There are no openings big enough for rats or mice to go in through.

A: Rats and mice wouldn't likely fit in through the vents, but they could dig holes to go under an edge to get inside.
The bin is larger than most residential outdoor compost bins. But it is not 5 feet tall or deep.

A: Now that a question you have to monitor yourself. I have possum, racoon, rabbit, squirrel, birds that like to see what new in the bin.
