A: Thank you for your interest in this product! This column comes unassembled in multiple pieces. It is intended for a load bearing installation, so it offers reinforced joints. You would use a load bearing column to replace existing posts as long as it is not a free standing application, such as, a pergola or gazebo. If you intend to wrap the column around the existing post, then consider model number, EA0608FNPSAEMEM. This option would also come in multiple pieces but the joints would not be reinforced, so it would not be load bearing. As well, the capital and bases would be pre-split to reassemble around the old posts. Best of luck on your project!

Q:What's the difference between this one and the wrap around? Is there a difference in installation?

Answer This Question
A: Thanks for reaching out. The "Load-Bearing" construction, when installed, is sturdy enough to bear a dead-load (capacity depends on the size of column). The staves are constructed for a load-bearing application. The "Post Wrap" construction (Model # EA0909INPSPEMEM) has the capital, base, and staves split to go around an existing or new post. Both options, depending on what your project calls for, are easy an hassle-free to install. Hope this helps!
