Q:Can these posts be attached to the rim and outer joist? Or only to blocking installed within the joists? I'm trying to get the railing out to the edge as far as I can.

Answer This Question
A: Hondo--We like blocking so the hardware is firmly attached to some holding wood. If your joists are thick and can support large screws that would be fine. It needs holding wood to keep super rigid and firm.

Q:If we are using the 34" x 69" & 34" x 91" railings, is it better to use the 36" or 42" posts? Our deck is 16' x 18'-6" and we already have (4) corner posts

Answer This Question
A: You can use either post. We recommend the 36" posts to create more of a low-profile look. The 42" will stick above the 34" railing pretty high.

Answer This Question
A: Bobby--CA needs higher decking than most markets in the USA. This is the wrong product. You will need the 3" x 3" x 42" post accompanied with 42" high railing and stairs.
