A:  I don't believe these work with the 1617EVS with the fixed base but I believe they work with the plunge base. HOWEVER, the included adapter may allow them to work with the fixed base. With the plunger base it has no purpose since it is but into the plug base.

A:  No you need to buy a screw on type template/bushing kit. Luckily for you it is the most common type on the market and is available from many manufacturers not just Porter Cable. In fact if you are looking for a fine wood working set up rockler makes a very nice kit and may even come with a carbide bit if I remember right. Hope this helps.
