Questions and Answers for Brinly-Hardy 40 in. Tow-Behind Combination Aerator-Spreader

A:  It all depends on the size of the fertilizer, I normally get done in about a half hour and that is due to the size of my yard. You may have put to much in it for the shaft to turn or it had some trash in there. At times some of the fertilizer comes out of the bag in clunks and I have to break them up by hand, this will slow down the spreading. Or than that I am very happy with mine it does the job.

A:  Depends on how open the flow is...typically about 20 minutes...based on speed and how open the trough is...

A:  It shouldn't take an hour to spread 40lbs of seed and fertilizer. It sounds like your drain chain may have slid off the sprocket not allowing the agitator to turn. We can help you troubleshoot the issue. Please give us a call at 877-728-8224.

A:  The time required will vary based on the granularity of the material you are spreading, and how you set the spreading volume on the spreader. I would guess anywhere between 10 and 30 min.

A:  I ran into the same problem with slow speed rate. Any attempt to modify turns it into a useless piece of scrap metal. Hated this purchase. I would return while you can still get a refund and buy the next step up.

A:  Without modification, the ground engagement is either 100% (full weight of the unit) or none.

A:  It's an all or nothing with the model I purchased. It was the 100 lbs capacity tow behind all-in-one aerator/seeder. Mine only penetrates about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch as my soul is clay and extemly packed .

A:  Yes I will I do spread it from time to time, I just make sure that it is loose as it comes out of the bag.

A:  I spreads citracal lime which is a small hard pellet, and does it well. I have never tried large pelletized lime. This is the best small aerator spreader having tried many other types.

A:  It can't even speak seed. This one replaced the first one that broke and this one broke the second time used.

A:  I never tried it but I would think it could if it was very fine and dry. It would have to be flowable so it didn't clog up.

A:  No I don't believe so. Mainly aeration and seed and fertilizer spreader. Tines rotate when engaged and adjust seed flow and give. Not sure if top soil will feed through. Sorry best I can do for an answer.

A:  No it cannot spread Topsoil. I put topsoil in and it clogged up the rotary bar and bent it somewhat.Thankfully I did not do much damage to my Aerator spreader. Hope this helps.....

A:  I don't remind but the only things that I put together where the wheels, the handle to open and close the flow of seed and the tow bar all pretty easy. Everything else was put together so only those few parts were needed since it came in a box.

A:  I do not know of a video of how to assemble. However, the instructions that came with aerator-spreader were very good for assemble.

A:  al i have not seen a video on the spreader . you may try you tube good luck.

A:  If you simply cover it when not in use it shouldn't rust. I've kept mine in a carport for the last 2 years in the Northeast and it has not rusted.

A:  I wash mine out with my pressure washer and put a light coating of oil on exposed steel and chain.

A:  We use a silicone aerosol spray, just apply light coat and store it in a dry place.

A:  You can oil the tines to prevent rust and use a light coat of enamel when needed on the body.

A:  Do not leave outside and spray with WD-40 or equal

A:  "blaster" dry lubricant graphite or teflon sold at home depot usually next to wd 40 display

A:  2 inche

A:  Standard garden tractor hitch with a 1/2" hitch pin. There should be a plate on the rear of your mower that has a 1/2" hole in it for the pin to go through.

A:  As long as that tractor has standard tractor hitch, your good! Check the rear bumper for a spot to slip in a 1/2" pin.

A:  should it's not that heavy.

Looking at pictures of that Cub Cadet mower, it appears to have the vertical pin hitch on the back that this product needs. This product is considerably wider than the mower you have though. A 30" model might be more appropriate. I hope this helps, Chris. .

A:  Yes it works with all mowers.

A:  Yes it does. I follow the grass tracks made by the wheels and much more obvious tracks using the airator. I like on my next pass to roll a couple inches inside my previous pass as to get complete coverage.

A:  If it were pure dirt I would say yes, most likely. In grass, it would be difficult to see. I follow my tractor tire lines. I’ve been happy with it. I did have to lock in the opening lever a little extra. Felt like it moved sometimes and wouldn’t be even. Little tape fixed it in 2 seconds though. I would recommend it in soft soil.

A:  Yes it’s an evident tire track by the machine and the tractor pulling it!! This aerator works great on all size properties !

A:  Easy to see where the last run was with this spreader...the spikes do a great job...very obvious

A:  Depends how thick your grass is but I can see where I have driven by looking at the marks that the wheels of the tractor leave behind.

A:  1) you can do it the same way--or 2) use 1/2 of the spreader setting and go north south then go east to west

A:  Yes it is easy to see where you have already aerated and spread material the spike marks are quite visible.

A:  LaAnna - Thank you for your interest in our products. You can aerate without spreading but you cannot spread without aerating.

A:  No they run when the wheels turn. But if you don't put anything on it to weigh it down the aerator doesn't work.

A:  Yes, there is a handle that will raise and lower the aerator, while a separate handle is used for the spreader.

A:  Unfortunately, no. The aerator tines are what drives the spreader mechanism.

A:  No, you cannot use the spreader without the aerator.
