Q:Will this keep my sprinkler head from popping up and spaying?

A: Yes--sort of. You will have to take the sprinkler cartridge itself off, then install this cap directly onto the irrigation pipe. The cap will likely be below grade, buried in your yard, then. If you want to still see the pipe, to locate it easily for future use/connections, then you will want to take the sprinkler cartridge off, then add a coupler and a riser, and then put this cap on the end of the riser.

A: Normally, you'll be digging a hole around the sprinkler, then you'll carefully unscrew the sprinkler from the riser pipe. Water may come bubbling out from the header, but this should eventually stop. St that point, you can cap the riser pipe. Remember to rap some teflon tape around the threads on the riser before screwing on the cap.

A: You would have to replace the sprinkler head with a riser AND this cap. But that is exactly what I used it for.

A: This is the female side of a 1/2 inch pipe threaded cap.

A: Well NPT is a tapered thread, so the inside diameter changes as this cap is screwed on. But the outer couple threads measure .733 inches.
Sorry it took almost 2 years to get you an answer to this even though I don't know why you would want to know the I.D. of a 1/2" Female NPT Cap for..

A: Hi MJ,
This cap will work, however I might suggest a galvanized steel cap with pipe sealant to assure a tight seal.
