Q:With nothing plugged in, tester indicates OK (red-off, both yellow-on). If I plug anything into the circuit with the tester, it shows Hot/Ground Reverse. Is this normal? Does that mean the tester can only be used with no load?

Q:Why am I getting a correct read for this one outdoor outlet but when anything is plugged in and turned on, it trips the breaker?

Answer This Question
A: Dear Customer,
There may be a miswire causing the breaker to trip. The circuit the outlet is connected to may be at it's maximum capacity and whatever you are plugging into that outlet could be bringing the total circuit load to above the rating for the circuit. I would find all the plugs associated with that breaker, unplug as many things that you can from those outlets, and then see if the outlet in question continues tripping the breaker.

Q:Can it be used to find the right circuit breaker connected to outlet

Answer This Question
A: Javi,
the commercial electric outlet tester will test if there is power going to the outlet it is plugged into. it will also show when power is on at the outlet, if it is wired correctly or not. It will not tell you what circuit breaker is associated with the outlet it is plugged into on it's own. If you plug it into an outlet, and then turn the a breaker off, and the unit is no longer displaying any lit LED's then it is showing you power is off. Hope this helps!

Answer This Question
A: Sam, The Commercial Electric Outlet tester has a reference guide on the tester. When read face up, the Red LED is on the left of the device and the two Yellow LEDS are on the right side of the device. If the Red LED and the far right Yellow LED are both illuminated, that means that your Hot wire, and Ground Wire are reversed.

Answer This Question
A: Retlaw,
The Commercial Electric Outlet Tester's function is to test the wiring of an outlet with power applied to it. The three lights each indicate voltage between a set of prongs. the red light is between The neutral and the ground. If the red light is the only light on (yellow may be dim but not lit). If the outlet has a GFCI (reset and test switch) then it may be that the GFCI may have been tripped. If the outlet does not have a GFCI, it may be wired to a nearby GFCI.

Answer This Question
A: Yes. It indicates if it is wired correctly in general. Indicates if the outlet is not grounded by only having center LED lit up. The key to the lights printed on the device lists this as "OPEN GROUND"
