A:  On new floors I first cut them level with a drum sander and 36 grit on the drum. You can level it with a square buff and 36 or maybe even 20 but it takes forever.. On a smaller new floor after the drum levels all the boards with the 36 grit, I switch to the square buff also with 36 grit. This seams to really start hyper leveling the floor. If it’s a bigger floor (like 150 sf) I may take a second run with the drum sander and use a 60 or 80 grit. Then I use the square buff with descending grit after the 36 cut (I’ll use 60 on the square buff first if I did the second run with 60 on the drum). Essentially I work down on the grit from the initial 60 to 80 to 120. I then put on a first coat of floor finish ( I always use oil base because it has a very nice color where water base to me looks too white/light). You can then cut that first coat of varnish (or sealer). with a 220 screen and then place a second and maybe a third coat. Floor varnish seems to go much further than typical paints. Paint usually gives about 400 sq f5 per gallon and I think the same gallon of floor finish gives me probably about 500. Clean before each coating not only with a vacuum but I would use a tack cloth or something like a thinner rag and try to get the surface immaculate. Keep in mind dusty walls (from your sanding) and moving air like open windows or heating AC circulation. The newer varnishes don’t seem to smell as bad as they did decades ago when I did allot of floors but they do smell and probably not good for long exposure but nothing a paint respirator can’t handle until you make your escape. The floor should look like glass if done right. On refinish the above info also stands but if the floor is in good shape the square buff may be able to do the whole thing. Also when edging a floor edger is handy but I use my big angle sander/grinder with the same grit as the field machine. I hate what we used to call “spinners” as I think they are backbreaking and I can control my angle grinder probably better than the dedicated edger.

A:  I would recommend using 60 grit, then follow with 80 grit and finish with 120 grit. I don't recommend using the Diablo self adhesive sand paper with an orbital floor sander. The sandpaper sticks to the sander for about 10-20 seconds. Then become ineffective. Your better off using a drum sander and being very careful not to damage your floors.

A:  Thank you for your question. This product has a Stick-Fast Backing.

A:  Yes - there is not stick fast backing. I have purchased this product 6 months apart and it was a waste of money - nothing stuck.

A:  There is a sticky back, but it?s not sticky enough. I used some Gorilla spray on adhesive, it worked great. I?d suggest having some on hand just in case.

A:  It is supposedly a fast stick and it probably is when adhered to a flat smooth surface unlike the orbital floor sanders rented by the Home Depot. All it takes is a little sanding dust to negate the adhesive.

A:  The Diablo paper we used has a light adhesive backing. It's strong enough to hold firmly to the pad with the weight of the sander, but light enough to gently pull off the pad when done. It's important to slowly and gently remove the adhesive paper from the pad. If you pull quickly and aggressively, you may also remove fibers for the pad. We used both adhesive and "aggressive" back paper. The adhesive back paper worked much better because the corners stayed stuck to the pad. The aggressive paper did not stick and folded over when moving across an outdoor wooden deck with slots in between.

A:  Hello Jim, thank you for your question and interest in Diablo sanding accessories. It appears the remainder of your question got cut off, but the Diablo 12 in x 18 in sanding sheets do have a high volume of PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) on the backing to help lock it to the intermediate pad being used. I hope this helps! Thanks!
