Questions and Answers for DecoArt Americana Decor 8 oz. Carbon Chalky Finish

A:  The Chalky Finish will dry hard on fabric. It will adhere to fabric just fine, but won't dry soft. Meant for decorative purposes only. -DecoArt Paint Guru

A:  Carbon is actually "Black". Our white chalky paint is called "Everlasting". These acrylics are water based and intermixable with other water based acrylics.

A:  The paint alone is not waterproof. You would need to seal with one of our Americana Decor Varnishes.

A:  No, you need to use a sealant. DecoArt have varnishes with different finishes. Ex: matte, gloss etc. I have also used a spray polyurethane. Recently, I found this product called Gator Hide by Dixie Belle thats water repellant. I think this will be what I use for my future chalk paint projects. Remember chalk paint consistency can be chaged by using water. For example, if you leave the top off or if it is exposed to air for some time you will find the paint gets thicker by just adding water you can thin it out. I know many people use other well known chalk paint brands but I love DecoArt brand of paints.

A:  An 8 ounce jar covers approximately 50 square feet on sealed surfaces. It will depend on the condition of the surface you are painting and how dark the wood is, but most colors cover in one coat.

A:  Yes, our Chalky Finish is very easy to sand down to deliver that distressed or vintage look your desiring. Our recommendation is that you let the darker overcoat dry completely - at least 1-2 hrs - before sanding. Use a light grit sand paper. -DecoArt Paint Guru

A:  I ha e never done this with the crackle finish, but the paint itself does not require any prep other than cleaning.

A:  Typically you don't need to prep a surface prior to the Crackle Medium, but we don't know how the crackle will react with the existing gold finish (is the gold a solvent based, oil-based, water-based paint, etc). The crackle was meant to be applied over an existing Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint - it's not been tested with other manufacturer's product. A:  If you pull up Americana Decor 8oz Promise Chalky Finish, you will see a swatch card to the left. We have two shades of Pink in our Chalky Finish line - ADC05 Innocent, which is a brighter pink and ADC22 Promise, which is a softer pink. -DecoArt Paint Guru
