Eco Cork Foam has excellent sound dampening abilities and produced some of the highest acoustical ratings in the market. 3rd party acoustical testing was conducted using standard ASTM testing methods which resulted in an STC of 67db (used to determine airborne sound transmission loss), IIC of 76db (used to determine the amount of impact noise isolation) and a Delta IIC of 26db (shows what the product adds to the assembly in terms of impact sound isolation). In our opinion, ECF is not the ideal underlayment under carpet cushion as you run the risk of trapping moisture between layers, creating an ideal environment for mold, mildew and fungi. For your particular application, we recomended Lifeproof Carpet Cushion. This will allow you to install one product saving you time and money. You will be pleased to hear that ECF is can be laid perpendicular or parallel to the flooring. It will not impact the flooring. Typically, it is installed perpendicular to the flooring.
