Answer This Question

A:  To ensure USPS pick up of outgoing mail, an approved collection door would have to be used, so a slit would not be able to be cut into a door for postal service.

A:  You would need an approved collection door to ensure that the USPS would pick up the mail.

Q:what is used for the top lock can you buy a lock or does this have to come from the post office. Please let me know

      Answer This Question

A:  If you plan on the US Postal Service delivering to these mailboxes, you are correct, the main lock will have to be installed by their personnel. Simply contact your local postal officials and let them know you have a new centralized mailbox you would like to place into commission. They will send someone to install their proprietary Arrow lock so that the letter carrier can gain access to the units.

Q:Is this aluminum? Can it be outside? What is meant by recess-mount? The mailbox I need is outside on a ledge . and mounted to a wooden fence.

        Answer This Question

A:  Yes, the 1250 vertical series mailboxes are constructed of aluminum. Designed to meet Postal Specifications that were written 30+ years ago, they are not made with the same security and weather resistant features as the mailboxes of today and therefore this mailbox is not recommended for outdoor/exposed use. Recessed-mount means that it does not have a finished outside as it is to be mounted into a wall, box, etc. If the mailbox mounting desired is to be attached to a wall for example, then a surface-mounted model should be purchased instead.

A:  Yes, our vertical mailboxes have optional pushbuttons that when attached via your own electrical hook up would function as a contact button. To purchase the mailbox with this option at Home Depot, contact the service desk to place a special order.

A:  Yes, we do. You actually have two options. . .go to the special order desk at your local Home Depot and either ask them about their universal lock kit or place an order for the Florence K30809 replacement lock. Both should fit this box.

            Answer This Question

A:  To determine the type of replacement key needed, you will first need to determine the type of lock that was installed in your particular vertical mailbox. The easiest way to make this determination is to ask your letter carrier to allow you to view the lock when they have the box open for mail delivery. The lock code can be found on the cam of the lock. With this information you will be able to order a replacement key from the special order desk. You may reference our online key look-up guide to help you quickly find the appropriate replacement at http://www.replacementmailboxes.com/lock-key.html. In some cases, it might be beneficial to simply order a new Hudson lock to replace the old lock as the Hudson will fit the opening no matter the existing lock already in place. Lock replacement will require the letter carrier opening the unit for you as well.
