Q:I have 4in. of closed cell insulation applied directly to the deck. Metal roof above deck. I have a leak somewhere. Can I use this to test the moisture of the insulation to help find the leak?

    Answer This Question

A:  Yes, however do keep in mind that if the metal enters the scanning area you will see false positives on the readings. Additionally, there is no mode for insulation so readings will not be calibrated properly for this use. The readings you take will need to be comparative, measure a confirmed dry area of the insulation and compare further readings to those in order to search for the leak.

Q:3 green lights, one yellow light on REL and readings on PIN of less than 9.1% in dry wall. Concerns?

        Answer This Question

A:  Your pinless readings are just slightly higher than normal, but not nearly enough to cause an issue like mold. Your pin readings are very dry, but that may be due to the pins not being inserted properly into the drywall, be sure to push those pins in all the way so that the hexagonal base is pressing against the drywall.

Q:I have an RV made of aluminum and insulation and wood will this tool work for me I have a water leak in the wall somewhere and would love to find it without disturbing the whole wall
            by|Nov 19, 2023
            1 Answer
            Answer This Question

A:  Moisture meters will false alarm when any metal is present in the scanning area. For the pins, the metal would need to be touching the pins or between the pins. For pinless, the metal would need to be within 3/4" of the black sensor. This will result in false positives on the unit.

              Answer This Question

A:  Yes this unit is able to be used on wood products. Use of the pins requires pushing them into the material being scanned. If you can not put holes in the furniture then i would suggest using the pinless mode.
