Answer This Question
A: No need to apply anything before the poly. Cut first because you will need to sand before applying the poly.

A: As long as you're working steadily on your project, you'll go ahead and cut, then apply your poly. You will not need to apply anything before that. There are pros and cons to different types of polyurethane, so you'll just want to check out your options and see what best meets your needs. Thank you for your interest!

Answer This Question
A: You can, but just seal the block with food safe mineral oil. Regular sanding will be required to keep the block in good shape. Other than that, you're good to go!

A: Not recommended to cut meat on because bacteria can grow into the wood.

Q:What is the best way to mount this to a 2x4 bar frame and does this need a sub-top like plywood? I'm thinking drilling pilot holes and using lag bolts that go through the 2x4 1.5 inch side and about .75 inches (halfway) into the 1.5 inch butcher block.

Q:What do you use to seal the wood
by|Sep 10, 2022

Answer This Question
A: A polyurethane coat will keep all that moisture sealed in, and will be added protection, but it can still get rings, water damage like any other wood surface. However, it is more permanent. If you want a food safe area, we do suggest mineral oil. With mineral oil, think of the wood as a big sponge. A couple of coats of mineral oil will bring the wood to life. Months down the road, it could use another coat, filling that wood. After a few times, it won’t need it anymore because the wood will be nice and saturated.
