A:  I'm using both of my Hodedah 5-shelf bookcases just to hold my folded clothes... this bookcase is well constructed and is pretty sturdy, BUT its limiting factor for high weight holding capacity is that both the sides and the 5-shelves are only 1/2" thick... each shelf piece is 15" wide, 11" deep and 1/2" thick... so it should hold a lot of smaller paperback books, and I probably would only load heavy books on the lower 2 shelves (Suggestion: if you have a LOT of heavy hardbound books you would be better off finding a 5-shelf bookcase that is 3/4" thick made out of either wood or coated particleboard)... also remember the base of this bookcase is only 12" inches deep so make sure you use the hooks that are provided to secure the bookcase to a wall stud if available to prevent it from possibly tipping over if you happen to have a mild earthquake.
