Q:We’ve done a couple of other dimmable LED fixtures in our house and had a heck of a time finding dimmer switches that would work properly. Has anyone had this experience with these? If so or if you didnt have any issue, which dimmer switch do you have connected to this light?

A:  Hi OlyPenGuy, After being an electrician for 50 years I only use Lutron dimmers as they always work and have never had a problem with them. For LED dimmable fixtures I would use the following styles: Sunnata, Maestro or Diva as all are great dimmers, stay away from cheap dimmers as they are just that cheap and are ok for incandescent but LED's can be touchy so stick with top of line Dimmers made by Lutron and you should have no problems and Lutron has an outstanding cust. service group

A:  I have mine on just a cheap on off button and slider dimmer. It wasn't anything fancy and it seems to be working fine. No flicker when dimming.

      by|Apr 1, 2021

A:  Have three different types of dimmers and all work fine with the leds.

A:  I don’t have mine on a dimmer. You can use regular round knob dimmer or the little slide dimmers on the wall switch. Any dinner will work so far as I know

          Answer This Question

A:  If you have a dimmer switch in the circuit, it might not be compatible with this fixture. Or, the fixture might be defective.

          by|Nov 3, 2020

A:  This sounds like low power. My guess is either bad connection at the light or the switch. It could also be the switch itself. If there is high resistance in the switch then the light will be dim. One other thing that could cause this is the voltage regulator.

          by|Apr 1, 2021

A:  Turn the dimmer switch until light gets brighter.

A:  No. A normal switch works fine.

            by|Nov 3, 2020

A:  No, but I would recommend it. I just installed 5 of these in my basement and they are extremely bright white. Dimmer switches install in 12-mins with existing wiring (no extra wires needed). Dimmer switches have come down in price, less than $20 for a good one. I bought a high-end Dimmer from Home Depot $38 and I'm actually on Home Depot to complain that I wish this Hampton Bay 20 in. LED would dim lower. At it's lowest dim setting (with the dimmer I bought) it is still 50% of the brightness and it's too much. Without a dimmer I feel like under a flood light. It's a very bright light.

A:  Hey Tim, This light is dimmable, but this doesn't mean you have to dim it. You can use a standard light switch for on/off.

              by|Nov 12, 2021

              A:  No dimmer switch required.

              by|Oct 21, 2020

A:  Mine uses standard switch - ON/OFF. I have no dimmer switch. Works great ON/OFF.

Q:I went to home depot. Display shows the light changing colors as though there must be a switch. I want the blue white light. I am getting yellow light. What do I do to get the blue light? I don't see a switch anywhere.

A:  I will answer it. I think that someone bought this same light. They then replaced the led base with an older one that has problems. Put it all back in package and returned it. I got it.

A:  Went back to home depot. This one does not change color. It shows as a soft blue light.

              by|Oct 11, 2020

A:  I don't think you can change the temperature of the light but only dim it. should always be 4000k white light.

A:  Not on this Hampton Bay 20 in. LED Puff but it is very bright white (not yellow at all). I just came back from Home Depot and you likely saw the Metalux (Eaton) 19 in. LED display unit, right next to it, and VERY SIMILAR looking and the same Price so it's difficult to set them apart. The Metalux has a 3-way switch from yellow (3000), to bright (3500), to very bright white (4000). The 20 in. Hampton Bay as pictured only comes in bright (3500 to 4000 range) and there is not a switch to change it. This is a very bright light, so much so that I would recommend buying a Dimmer Switch that has a setting to "fine-tune" the low-end dimming range (hidden behind the wall cover plate). Home Depot sells them. I mounted 5 of them in my basement, where we watch a lot of movies, and we all wish the Hampton Bay LED would dim lower. You will not get yellow light at any dim setting with this Hampton Bay LED.

A:  The light is only rated for 120 volts. If you are looking to go that route with voltage you may be able to find something more of a commercial fixture.

Q:The driver apparently gave up after less than 20,000 hours which is less than half of what the specifications indicate for life expectancy. Are replacement drivers available and if not, why? Alternatively, can Hampton Bay provide the driver specifications (Constant Voltage or Constant Current, Output Voltage and Output Current so we can source our own replacement driver?
