Q:Is the Garbage Disposal Sink-Top Air Switch Push Button compatible with the badger disposal model 5-87

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Tinman, the SinkTop Switch Button only includes the button and the cover that goes around the sink top switch button. If you want to use an air-activated switch instead of a wall switch, you need to get the SinkTop Switch Kit (model: STS-00) which provides all the components needed to allow a disposer to be air-activated. You can purchase this button separately from the kit if you want a different finish. And to make it work with your disposer, make sure you have a wall outlet to plug it in.

A:  Your disposal plugs into the a box that’s controlled by the air switch. It works great, starts and stops on every push.

A:  This has to be used in conjunction with InSinkErator SinkTop Switch.  The button could probably be painted.  I think it’s plastic.  If you paint it and it doesn’t work you could replace it later.  The tube from the switch attaches to the button so easy to replace.  If you do paint it sand it first.  I love mine.  I had no place for a normal wall switch.

A:  With repeated use, the paint will likely come off but could work as a temporary solution.

            by|May 12, 2022

A:  We don’t recommend changing the finish of the button. The outer diameter is still about 2", it hasn’t been changed. Here’s the installation guide for your reference: https://insinkerator.emerson.com/documents/installation-guide-en-4956192.pdf.

A:  this is a replacement part for another matte black or like in my case the chrome one that comes with the complete air switch kit. you just pull off the air hose and remove the nut that holds the button in place on the counter.

A:  You can use air switch on any disposal. In fact you can use it on anything electrical as long as you don’t exceed it’s amperage rating.

A:  Hi, thank you for your question. In general, we do not test our products for compatibility with other manufacturer's products, so we cannot speak to the expected performance when used together. For best results, we recommend you use InSinkErator parts and accessories with InSinkErator units.

A:  Hi Kate, thank you for your question. For best results, we recommend you use InSinkErator accessories with InSinkErator units. The SinkTop Switch Button uses air pressure to activate the power module (included in the SinkTop Switch Kit), located under the sink. When pressed, the Sink Top Switch sends a pulse of air down the air tube, triggers the remote switch and activates the disposer. I hope this helps!

A:  I don’t think you can use this as a switch for anything other than the garbage disposal. I would build a switch and perhaps an electrical outlet into the side of the Island instead. I have the button for my garbage disposal however and love it.

A:  It would definitely take some redneck engineering and be not up to code, but you could. The way this unit works is it plugs into a receptacle and has a switched receptacle on the face of it. You would need to put a plug end on the Romex switch leg for your lights and plug it in…

A:  No you can not. The button is not an electrical switch. It connects to a box you install under the sink. It uses an air pulse to activate the garbage disposal that is plugged into this box.

A:  Hi Saniel, thank you for your question! When installed correctly, the sink top switch button is watertight. However, just beneath the button is a rubber bellows where water can get into and settle. If this occurs, you may lift the button and use a paper towel to soak up the water.

A:  Hi NJ, thanks for reaching out! By the way, the SinkTop Switch Button only includes the button and the cover that goes around the sink top switch button. The power module and the transmitter body are included in the SinkTop Switch Kit. About your question, we don't have any known issues related to this. But in case you forgot to push the button again to turn it off, the disposer has a mechanism that detects when the motor begins to overheat and turns off the disposer as a safety precaution.
