A:  You need to use your current working key to start the re-key process, then you can insert the new key that you would like to work on your lock.     Q:The silver keys are referred to as "temporary" keys, for example for a domestic worker. But is there any reason I can't rekey my rental unit with the gold keys, and then when that tenant leaves I rekey it with the silver keys and discard the gold ones?

    A:  Yes, you can re-key the SmartKey locks to the silver keys and discard the gold keys. Both colors will work on the locks in the same way and provide the same security.

        Q:I have a quickset front door set with smart key. I wanted to change from an old key to a new key, but it did not work. I pulled the new key out and now neither the old key or new key will turn the lock. Now what can I do?

            Q:I’m currently locked out of my apartment. The new lock they put in is a deadbolt Kwikset lock. Could I use this key to unlock the door? Until I can get the key tomorrow

            A:  If you don't have your working key, this SmartKey Re-Key set will not unlock your deadbolt. This set is meant for re-keying a lock when the current working key is available. To enter your apartment securely we recommend asking your management if they have a master key to let you in. Otherwise, we suggest contacting a professional locksmith help you get in safely.
